PUPPY BATHS & OH OH . . . 20 DECEMBER 2015
On Sunday morning, BJ writes: While I was cleaning the crate and putting in clean bedding, VITA ate, then decided to clean the babies. After cleaning them, she came over to me and I think she thought she was going to clean MY face. Nope, I told her, you just cleaned the babies' little butts, you aren't cleaning my face!
Later that afternoon, BJ writes: Had to take one of the puppies to vet this afternoon!! I wanted to get some face shots of the pups so while Rudy held them, I took pics. When we got to the pup now called Baby HOPE Beri, we noticed how red it was and looked swollen to us.
I called Advanced Animal Hospital and got an appointment. Baby HOPE & I get in the CairnMobile; she's wrapped in a pink baby blanket. We get inside, Doc comes in and I show her the booboo. Looks abscessed with possible teeth marks. Thinking a topical ointment, but when I told her the story of VITA & her babies, she decided to give an oral antibiotic instead due to their having been born in the wet and mud. Baby HOPE Beri weighs .6 pounds. I have to give antibiotic twice daily and warm compress three times a day. Whew, my nerves are shot! Doc said that VITA may have been cleaning the spot and accidently nipped her. I felt bad, but Doc said that it may have been a small spot and when VITA cleaned it and nipped it got worse. It still made me feel bad that I hadn't noticed anything. At least Baby HOPE does't seem to have been in pain. At 8 p.m., BJ writes: I brought VITA & Baby HOPE out separately, as I had to make sure HOPE ate before I could give her the antibiotic (Clavamox). I also did her warm compress, which I think she rather enjoyed. Ha, giving her the antibiotic was fun; she didn't like it and it was like giving one of my nieces her antibiotic, head moving away while I was trying to place it in her mouth. She tasted it and you could tell she did not like it.
