STACEY AT HOME

JANUARY 2009

On 1 February, Dave Kahn writes:

Stacey is definitely coming around more each day. She LOVES walks on the leash with Chester and gets all excited when she gets her harness on. We've taken her & Chester to my in-laws' house to play with their Pomeranian mix (Pepe) and she loves that as well. Chester looks forward to it because he gets to chase the dogs on the other side of the fence that live behind my in-laws. Well, Stacey caught onto that game, too, and yesterday they completely wore themselves out, then took a nap on the couch.

She & Chester love spending time in the backyard, no matter what the temperature (until their little paws get cold and then it's a mad scramble to see who can get inside first). We had a somewhat mild day about a week ago; the sun was out and it wasn't a bad temp, so they both laid down and were just waiting for squirrels, or anything else alive, to pass through the yard.

Stacey & Chester, waiting for squirrels

Stacey is still doing great with going out and she's sort of learned Chester's 'circling like a shark' behavior to signal us when she wants to go outside.

She's also been to our vet and has had all of her records transcribed/transferred to one they've created for her.

Stacey has definitely found her voice. She likes to run and bark with Chester in the back yard along the fence line as they race our neighbor's dog. She also has started to bark when she hears an unfamiliar noise in the house. So she's starting to feel ownership in her home.

She and Chester are like old friends now. They like to play in the yard and wrestle in the bed. She likes to take out and drag around the toys in the bedroom or the family room.

She's still a little shy around me but has warmed up to Christy pretty well. She's such a smart dog. She's learned how to scavenge so we now have to make sure we keep things out of reach when we're not in the same room. (she got a package of saltine crackers from her new stealthy skill).

So we're very happy that she's with us, and she is definitely happy as well; she's started to let her guard down and just enjoy playing and all the things she missed out in the early portion of her life.

Thanks again for everything and I'll keep sending pictures.
