On Friday, Huey went to work with me to see how he responded to people. He met quite a few people, including small children, and did fantastic with them. He really does love everyone he meets, which is shocking considering what he went through. He does get scared of men initally but takes him about two seconds to warm up. When visitors weren't coming into my office to meet him, he would curl up under my desk with his blanket and his toys like he'd been trained to do that. It was amazing. He is great in the car, too.
He went to meet a potential forever family on Saturday. He loved the potential parents to be and cuddled right up to them, but was terrified of the family dog. It's a large breed dog and if she got close to him, he would crouch down and let out a terrifying high pitched squeal. If I hadn't been standing in front of them, I would have sworn that the dog had him in death's grip instead of just standing two inches away from him. They are coming to our house this weekend to see if Huey responds to Winnie differently on 'his' territory.
On Monday, he went to the groomers. He had a bath, the mats brushed out of his hair and his nails trimmed. He did well with everything and enjoyed the attention until the groomer reached his front nails and she had to muzzle him to finish the job because he was getting so upset. I don't think the poor thing ever had his nails clipped and the shelter made a start on them but couldn't get them finished.
Here he is, wearing the bandana
and relaxing on his daddy's lap
after the traumatic experience.
