LILLY IS BREATHING ON HER OWN!

Unfortunately, Marti writes:
as a result of having been under the anesthetic for so long (almost two days), she now has pneumonia.
They tell us that this is a common occurrence (even with people who undergo long surgeries). They've started her on powerful, broad-spectrum antibiotics and are optimistic that they caught it early enough.
Some people would have given up on Lilly when expensive surgery was needed. But we felt, after the horrific life Lilly had lived as a puppy mill dog, we owed it to her to give her a chance at a happy life.
AFTER the operation, the surgeon felt that the actual procedure had been successful. But she wasn't immediately able to breathe on her own. Some people would have given up at THAT point, but not US! The doctors were hoping she would eventually wake up, if only they could put her on a respirator for a day, or two, or three.
The problem was, her surgery cost close to $6000, and ICU care was running $1000 a day, so the "money clock" was ticking.
Two steps forward and one and a half steps back. Now Lilly is off the respirator and is breathing on her own, but she has pneumonia, so she remains in ICU. At what point to we give up on LIlly? Certainly not NOW . . . even though the bill continues to mount!
We believed from the beginning that Lilly was a fighter.
We believed in her, and we believed in YOU. Just as many of you were there to help MAX, and BRAVEHEART, and SWEETHEART, and PANDA, and PHOEBE
, we trusted that you would help us with Lilly. We took that leap of faith, and we are hoping we made the right decision.
We need your help now, not only to help Lilly, but so we will be able to continue rescuing these special needs dogs that most other rescues would refuse to take in. If you believe in what our little rescue tries to do, PLEASE send in your donation right away. Lilly, and other special needs dog out there whom we hope to help in the future, are counting on you!
