BRAVEHEART GOES HOME FOREVER

Just an update to let everyone know how Braveheart is doing . . . .

His hair is growing back (slowly), he's feeling great, he's eating like a horse (he only needs another five pounds or so, and he will be at his ideal weight), and Dr. Foy says Braveheart will be ready to be neutered (and to have the rest of his immunizations) in another month or so.

We also just received word from the Vet School today that Braveheart has officially been invited to appear with the University of Wisconsin Vet School representatives at the Wisconsin State Fair on August 10! We don't know the details - so we're not sure if he will be in the parade with Bucky Badger - but Braveheart will definitely be at the Fair that day, representing the Vet School and "rescue" in general.

And, MORE good news: Braveheart has been invited to a meet-and-greet at a local high school near Madison, where he will be presented with the community donations that the students have been collecting (for his ongoing medical costs) over the past few weeks. We'll be giving a short presentation, telling Braveheart's story and explaining what "rescue" does - followed by an opportunity for the students to meet Braveheart in person.

Finally, we'd like to officially announce that Lisa & Joanne - Braveheart's foster moms - have asked if they can adopt Braveheart. I am sure this is bittersweet news to the many other people who inquired about the possibility of adopting him.

But . . . Braveheart is already settled in at Lisa & Joanne's house, he is dearly loved by his moms (and their two darling little boys), he has a doggie friend (Dodger), and a fenced yard to play in, Lisa is home much of the time so Braveheart doesn't have to be a "latchkey" dog . . . these are all the things that we were hoping to find for Braveheart, so . . . it wouldn't make sense to uproot him now, since he's already "home"!

We are so thankful to all the people who were interested in adopting Braveheart, and we want to remind you that there are MANY dogs out there who are JUST as loving & deserving as Braveheart - including several dogs in our One Starfish rescue program. (Go to HERE to see our 'Adoptable Dogs'). Given the number of homeless and needy "Bravehearts" out there, we ask you - as a tribute to our sweet boy - if you have room in your heart for another dog, please adopt him or her from a shelter or rescue group, rather than buying from a breeder or a pet store. Braveheart would approve, and you'll feel better, knowing that you've paid it forward!
