On Monday morning,
Otis & I left at 7 a.m. to make the trek back to Vet Vision in Fairfax, Virginia.
Poor guy had to make the 3-1/2 hour trip with no food or water.
We took a little walk when we got there and got ready for surgery!

Otis was not his usual chipper self, but he was patient as always.
He went back to prep at 10:30 a.m.
He was taken into surgery around 2 p.m.
He finally came out around 3:30 p.m.

As a foster mom,
I learned it was just as hard
to wait for news on him
as it is for any of my two-
or four-legged children.
Around 4:30, Otis was released.
He came running out,
straining at the leash.

Not sure which of us
was more ready to go,
but we took off with his three pills
and the two ointments for his eyes.

Unfortunately, we hit DC beltway traffic and didn't get home
until after 9:30 p.m. Thankfully the vet tech,
knowing we had a long ride ahead of us,
gave Otis an extra pain injection before we left.

Otis was excited to get home and see his friends.
He ate a little, but was too swollen and messy for us to see if
he was reacting to the food. He struggled a little with the cone of shame,
but before I could even help him, he was using the step up onto the bed
and using the cone to ring the bell at the back door to go outside.

On the next day, Otis went to work with mom,
where the staff & clients had donated over $450 toward his surgery.
He got to meet a lot of his new friends and just loved all the attention.
He had a snack about every hour to stimulate his salivary glands.
By the end of the day,
it was very clear that both glands were working great!
Just showing him his snack led to a "tear" welling up and falling!

Wednesday, Otis went back to work to celebrate Thanksgiving.
He happily did his dance,
spinning on his back legs to get some turkey and show off for his friends.
As you can see from the pictures before and after surgery,
he has much more fluid in eyes now.
We feel this is going to make a huge difference in his life.
Hopefully there will be fewer medications in his future!
