So Otis and I continued our adventure together today.
We left Fruitland at 6 a.m. and drove in the rain back to Fairfax.
Traffic was light and we made good time, only skirting one accident.
We arrived on time and were seen quickly.
Dr. Corcoran's first impression: "Wow, he looks great!"
Otis got to take off the hated cone and the doctor checked his eyes.
We demonstrated with his favorite treat
when he was sick, a plain McGriddle.
Sounds weird, but it was soft and the only thing
I could put his meds in
that he wouldn't find them and spit them out!
Otis teared up nicely on the left and
a tear actually fell from the right eye.
He has no swelling, or reaction to the saliva in his eyes
or face around his eyes. She removed his lower stitches
and proclaimed him "perfect".
Otis will continue to get drops twice a day for two to four months.
He has some old diffuse corneal pigmentation that
the doctor feels may be cleaned up with the drops,
which would improve his eyesight.
I can say we know that Otis has no trouble with
his long-distance sight. He can see small movements
across the street from our house and look right at them,
before barking a warning, of course.
It's hard to gauge his close-up vision,
because his nose is so good,
he can even sniff out balls from a distance.
Otis was happy to get home and see Jack & Jesse
and run around the yard without the cone.
He had a nice warm bath and a trim.
Some of the hair around his chin had to be cut shorter than normal
due to the matting while he had the cone on.
But he looks pretty handsome to me.
