And on 13 July, Sidney reports:

INDY met 22-month-old Airedale O'Reilly and they got along great. The family will take the week to get ready and INDY will be going to his new home next weekend. ADOPTED!!

This morning I picked INDY up from his Foster Mom, Carolyn . . .

. . . and delivered him to his new family: O'Reilly, Bill & Corrine.
(His Forever Name is NIGEL)

But on 22 July, Sidney writes: Zen for NIGEL (formerly INDY)

Poor NIGEL was placed with his forever home only this weekend. When they were feeding him, they noticed that he had some blood coming out of his nose. I had forgotten, but his foster mom had mentioned that NIGEL had had a nosebleed, but she thought he probably got scratched by the c*t.

Bill & Corrine took NIGEL to the vet and it turns out that NIGEL is very anemic. The vet suspects a severe infestation of hookworm, which is treatable. So, oddly, everyone hope for that because other causes could be harder to treat.

All of the dogs were wormed by the Humane Society before they were released to rescue. NIGEL has been fostered separately from the rest and I am hoping that he picked up the hookworm during that time (if that is what it is). Just to be safe, I collected samples from LESLIE, CHARLIE, BLACKIE, NINA & GRACE today and delivered them to the vet (the receptionist was thrilled . . . "yesterday someone delivered cookies," she said). ADOPTED!!

I offered to take NIGEL back, but Bill & Corrine said, "No way!" They are already in love with the little guy and will do whatever is necessary to bring him back to good health. I did just send them a check for the amount of their adoption donation to help with the medical expenses.

I know our community has an unending supply of Zen, and would appreciate your sending some to NIGEL.

Later that day:

NIGEL has been diagnosed with tick fever (Ehrlichiosis). I did test all the dogs for this, so either it has developed since that time or it was missed in the previous test (not uncommon). He is being treated and is already feeling a lot better . . . I am relieved that NIGEL does not have hookworm.

And the next day, Bill & Corrine write:

Sidney, thank you for the check, but we tore it up. NIGEL is a wonderful pet and we're very happy to have received him. Also, the insurance will help defray most of the expenses anyway. He is just adorable and lovable, and we couldn't be happier. O'Reilly is the perfect "big" brother and they just love each other.

The report continues on 26 July:

Just a little update on our newest family member, NIGEL. He has been on medicine for the Hookworm (yes, he had that too), and will visit the vet in a month to see if it's cleared up. Also, he will be on antibiotics for the tick fever for several weeks. But the vet said he should be fine. He really has perked up and has become very playful with O'Reilly. They've become best buddies. Bill & I walk them daily, and NIGEL keeps right up with us. He is adjusting wonderfully, and we could not have asked for a more sweet and affectionate dog. Thank you again for the wonderful work you do for Airedales. We're so glad to have found out about you and received a precious new pet.

Sidney adds:

The vet didn't find hookworm in the fecal samples I took in for CHARLIE, LESLIE, GRACE, BLACK & NINA, but we decided to give them a dose of Drontal Plus anyway since a couple of them did have kind of loose movements. If that doesn't firm everyone up, we will treat them again in three weeks.
