After many discussions of which direction to go with BJ to get him back to Arizona from Missouri, we were all set to have Amy deliver BJ to Jan Wiles, Airedale Rescue Coordinator in Oklahoma City. An Oklahoma Airedale is coming to live with one of our applicants in Flagstaff and Jan made a reservation at a kennel to board BJ until the transport.
Then Priscilla Lundblad, Airedale Rescue coordinator in Colorado, woke up in the middle of the night and realized she had an applicant waiting whom she thought would be the perfect fit for BJ. After many discussions between the applicant, the coordinators, and BJ's owner, everyone decided this sounded like just the right place for BJ. | |

We took BJ up to Lee's Summit (Kansas City) on Saturday. That was one of the hardest things I've ever ever ever done. Unmedicated childbirth was easier to bear . . . .
In any event, I cannot thank you both enough. I do not know if the girls at the kennel will keep my paperwork straight; I wrote a three-page letter to BJ's new family. I will be happy to send it on to you if they don't get it to his new people. Also, I put in his little care package heartworm medicine that I found that we had left over at the house. He needs a new heartworm test, though, before they give it to him because he was off of it for a couple of months this winter.
As hard as it was to give him up, I am so excited that he has a new family who I know will love him and take care of him.

Dude went to Colorado Sunday and all is well. He met with his new mom and her very large family (who live near, not with, her) and they are all just THRILLED. He's so gentle and easy-going and cuddly, his mom had tears of joy. They are going to work on getting his weight down with a good quality food and fresh carrots, etc. My friend who drove him half-way across Kansas said he was super in the car; slept most of the way but when he was awake he put his head on her shoulder.
I'll tell you that this guy got really lucky in so many ways. There are SOOOOOOOOOOO many seniors in now that haven't had a single inquiry. Dog Dude is just an angel. I feel so badly for his previous family and will call and let them know how he's doing.

I received a call from BJ's new home this morning and he is doing great! He had oral surgery last Monday to remove a couple of abscessed teeth in addition to some other work (his mouth was a mess) ,and came through it with 'flying colors'. He and his new mom have toast together every morning! He also enjoys his very large, wire-fenced back yard where he has made friends with the neighbor dog. He also has fun running to greet the dogs that are being walked by his yard. There is no doubt that he is in a good place and it is most obvious that he has already endeared himself to his new mom and she to him.
I am going to go to visit him in the next few days. I'll be sure to take photos!
