RUSTY BRYANT-RISE

On Saturday, Barb takes a moment to write:

Second day is going very smoothly . . . big breakfast, big runrunrun at the beach, then BIG bath. And now, finally, a nap, which I think sounds like a wonderful idea! Rusty found a spot of sun on the floor and is curled up in it. I will forward some words and a few more pictures soon . . .

Debbie Karley:

This is quite a holiday story, no matter what part of the globe is home; the story is universally sweet in all countries.

I think Rusty's placement should become our annual Thanksgiving story!!

Big congratulations to Rusty, his new forever family, Airedale Rescue and the key people who made this such a happy placement. Wow, I have goose bumps reading about Rusty's journey while admiring his gorgeous photos.

Rescue is such powerful medicine.

AmyMarie Fornelli:

Lucky for both of you. I have never forgotten the first time I saw any of my doggies. Truly a moment which is forever locked in our hearts.

Christine Votel-Sheffer:

Congratulations to Rusty, his new family and all of the rescue volunteers who made this happen! Everyone wins! I'm sitting here crying with joy.

Finally, Thanksgiving Weekend is over . . . Barb & Craig write:

I thought that with the long Thanksgiving weekend coming to an end (darn it), now would be an appropriate time to thank a few people . . .

I would like to extend a big, warm "thank you" to all of you who sent us such kind words about Rusty, both on- and off-list.

What a wonderful beginning to this Holiday season, and a nice close to what has been quite an eventful year. We wish everyone - no matter which Holiday you choose to celebrate - a wonderful and sparkly Holiday season!

Warm wishes from all of us --
Barbie (sitting at the computer)
Craig (sitting next to me at the computer)
Rusty (who's sound asleep on Craig's lap, with one foot on me . . . at the computer)

Sunday, 28 November 2004, Barb writes:

. . . snifflesnifflesniffle! I opened my eyes to what HAD to be the nose-end of a moose. Wait . . . no, it's Rusty! His first morning here in his forever home. It was 3 a.m., mind you, but nonetheless, he was doing his first BIGNOSEPOKE (which happened to be in my face) in his Forever Home. He wanted to go outside. What a wonderful thing that is! The part where he TELLS me about it, no matter what the time is. We like that. Better than him being afraid to tell me, and us finding out later that he had to go (you know what I mean by "finding out later" - typically it involves a foot . . . and a wet sock).

Well, we did all manage to get a little more sleep after that. For the remainder of the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend we just enjoyed getting to know our new boy. It was a weekend of many great "firsts". You know: First snore. First bite of carrot. First bite of broccoli. First bowl of oatmeal. First run at our favorite Park. First swim in the ocean. First bath. FIRST countersurf (yes, it had to happen, didn't it!) (my fault, really) . . . Of course, all of these things are the first time with us anyway.

And like any proud new parents, each "new" thing was quickly and enthusiastically met with loud "ooooooooooohs" and "ahhhhhhhhhhs" from admiring humans. And pictures. There are pictures of every-little-thing he does. Hundreds of 'em. While we may quite possibly be the only ones so enamored by him, I thought there might be somebody out there who can relate--even just a little? So I thought I'd take the risk, and assume that perhaps one or two may appreciate this . . . here are a few moments from our weekend of "firsts". Besides, we only get one of those, right?

Ph

First day at the beach. Mother/Father Nature put on a wonderful show for us . . . wind, rain, eagles . . .

Ph

We played on the beach, while eagles soared right overhead. They said, "Welcome, Rusty". (I swear!)

Ph

First moment off the leash. It's not necessary to use all four legs at once!

Ph

What's that? Somebody say my name? . . . be right there!

Ph

First TUCKBUTTRUN! (Another crowded day at the beach)

Ph

Loooooook! Water! I will use my special flying powers to get there.

Ph

First taste of saltwater (yuk!). Why do these waves keep attacking me? Even after I bite them!

Ph

Back home - after first bath. Lots of circles and trying to get away from mom & that brush thingy . . . oh, I give up. I'll just sleep on her!
