Rusty: Hey - remember me? I was cute first!!

Well, our lives had just changed forever. It took all our attention to make sure both of these dogs knew they were loved. At all times. Lots of training ahead. For all of us! I'm thinking that Peanut hasn't had a lot of training. She didn't seem to want to focus on what we were saying to her, at all. That's okay. We got through the first feeding with all of us alive & intact.

Ph

Just give us the food and nobody gets hurt.

We spent the rest of the night in separate rooms. Craig & Rusty together in one room downstairs . . . I was with Peanut upstairs. It was clear she was a little unsettled. She would hop up from her bed and pace around, then flop back down and whimper. I finally ended up curled around her and talking to her so she wouldn't cry. We slept the rest of the night that way. I thought it appropriate that instead of calling her Peanut, she should be called Pinenut.

Ph

Peanut - showing us her ghost impression. It's a little late for Halloween, Peanut.

Meanwhile, Moose . . . I mean, Rusty . . . and Craig were sound asleep on the bed. Let's just say later, when I went to look in on them, Rusty was sprawled out over him AND the rest of the bed! I actually checked to make sure Craig was breathing. He had originally jumped up there to get away from Peanut! (Rusty, that is) (actually, Craig probably did too now that I think about it) I wonder what psychologists would say about our marriage - both of us locked in separate rooms, each with a dog! I'm sure it would make for a great Dr. Phil episode.

Ph

We ARE staying out of the kitchen.

Ph

Fine. We'll LIE DOWN and stay out of the kitchen.

Well, Day One - over. All paws & toes present and accounted for. Welcome home, Peanut. I hope you will like your new forever home . . . we're looking forward to the happily-ever-after!

Ph

I do like my new travel bed. But do you really think gray is my color?

Maureen Scott:

This is really delightful! Barbie; your account of collecting Peanut and bringing her home is the stuff that rescuers adore hearing - over & over & over! Wonderful material to request a potential adopter to read, as well! And I love the photos . . . Peanut looks like a sweetheart albeit one that could stand to diet a trifle. I'm sure Rusty will shortly be worshipping the ground beneath her feet - or she will know the reason why!

Many thanks to Barbie for inviting us to join her on her trip to pick up Peanut. Definitely made my night . . . .

Barb:

Just received a call from Connie Turner, and I thought I'd pass on her message to you - Thank you thank you thank you! She loves your pages and is (as am I . . . and many others) so grateful to you for taking the time to do this. Obviously, good for rescue . . . good for all.

RuthEllen Hill:

Thanks so much, Andréa & Barbie. I have been on pins & needles waiting for the report. Maureen is right - rescuers love these stories, makes everything so worthwhile.

Jackie McGuinness:

Welcome, Peanut. I see you've settled into your new home. What do you think of Rusty, then? Quite a handsome lad. Have you noticed, though, how he contrived to make your bum look fat in all the photos with him, but it looked fine when you were in the car by yourself? Hmm!

Great story, Barbie; between your stories and The Littlest Lunatic stories, I'm spoiled.
