On 17 March 2004, Mary Gade of Rocky Mountain Airedale Rescue Colorado writes to adthome list members:

We at RMARC are searching for the right words to express our grief over what happened this weekend. A wonderful, gentle, beautiful rescue Airedale by the noble name of Kak's Tall Boy Rufus suffered Gastric Dilitation and Volvulus (GDV) and died from complications Saturday evening. |
Rufus prior to grooming |
We are numb with the pain of his loss even though we only
knew him for three days. Rufus was special, so vibrant and
full of life, weighing 82 pounds and standing 28 inches at
the wither. In spite of his size, he was one of the most
refined and elegant Airedales I have ever seen.

Rufus with Mary Gade | |
You all know how an Airedale will wrap himself around your
heart, and you fall in love with him immediately? That was
Rufus. From the time we brought him down from the 'high country', he was never left alone. We did everything possible to save him. Bloat is a killer. I pray Rufus' story will make everyone aware of this danger.
Thanks to everyone who offered their condolences.

Paul Diggins, RMARC treasurer, fell in love with Rufus and slept with him the first two nights to ease the stress.
|
Paul & his wife Mary [Diggins, not Gade] also have three Airedales of their own. Plus two c*ts!

The Airedale can do anything any other dog can do and then whip the other dog.
