MEN AT WORK
ENZO LENDS A HELPING PAW
24 FEBRUARY 2007

Sue writes:

I know from the many many notes which flood Enzo's mailbox that his Fan Club is counting down the final few days until his long long journey concludes - with the celebration of his reunion with his Mum Atia, and his little skin siser Maia, in Sydney on March 5. Next Monday to be precise.

Some Enzo-sized sniffles here, accompanied by Enzo-sized tears. Rescue is hard, as we all know, and seeing Enzo's Journey finally moving to its rightful conclusion is both joyous and . . . well, not without some heartache too.

But I have only to think what Atia has endured to put it all in perspective. I have been blessed indeed to have been given the chance - with the immeasurable help from all of you, without whom it could never have happened - to restore Enzo to his rightful place in the heart and arms of his family.

In the meantime, last weekend, Enzo offered to assist in the next stage of the construction of Sue's Potting Shed. Never one to knock back assistance, Bill happily passed him a shovel.

The construction of SPS requires some teamwork and high-level design. First was the de-construction of an elderly unwanted timber paling fence (see? I am into 'rescue' of all things, especially Senior!) in the nearby town of Healesville. Palings - in my book - equal excellent walls for potting sheds.

Next was the transporting of 600 of these timber pieces from Healesville to Wombat Bend, and of course, Enzo helped. Chester did too, and Ascha & Aerem lent their enthusiastic support. (Somewhere in the recent pages of Enzo's Story, you will see him assisting in the unloading of one trailer-load.)

Next came the clearing of the site of SPS. This necessitated a Bobcat (a wonderful invention, Bill has ordered one for his next birthday . . . hah, boys' toys indeed!). So last Saturday, along came Mr Bobcat who proceeded, in a dozen mighty scoops, to demolish and re-deposit my erstwhile compost heap, which had graced the veggie bed behind the asparagus patch. It is now in a new position behind some shrubbery, leaving a neat & suitably-sized patch for SPS.

Then Mr Bobcat levelled the site. Yesterday he returned and in about ten minutes flat, chiselled 17 neat post holes, ready for the uprights of SPS.

It is indeed a work in progress. Without Enzo's help, it may proceed somewhat more slowly, but it will be a permanent reminder (one of many hundreds) of Enzo's time at Wombat Bend.

Enzo's Journey will continue.

Okay Enzo, lift your end!

And this is your shovel, Enzo.

Ph

Hmmmm . . . seems to me you're managing pretty well on yer own, Bill.

RITA FERRER:

TommiGirl (one of the SpokesDogs for the 2007 Filled with Love for Senior Airedales Fundaiser) got her bandana all the way from Australia via Andréa today, just in time for her trip home from the vet's office. Thanks! It was our pleasure to send a bit money your way so Enzo could find his way to his family.

The pictures of him helping Bill warm my heart. He's going to miss you & Bill & the A's & Chester & Wombat Bend. It will be a wonderful memory for him to carry back home.

SIDNEY HARDIE:

Enzo looks so happy - what a great sight. Why is it that these master diggers never dig where you need them to do it?

Anim

BOB ANDERSON:

Now that's a compost pile! What a helper Enzo is . . . Looks like he's more of an administrator, though.
