SUE'S ENZOVISIT 10-13 AUGUST 2007

On 15 August, Sue writes: This is not the news I was wanting to write. We are still trying to come to terms with it, but the longer I leave telling you, the harder it will get. Enzo has cancer. Cancer of the kidney, specifically a carcinoma of the left kidney. Enzo likes to be where the action is, even while snoozing. His comfy bed is near the dining table; no prizes for guessing why. For the many folk on the lists who know something (or a lot) of the connections between body organs & disease, this may not be a surprise. Kidney disease in its many forms is aligned with fear, loss, grief & abandonment. And if that does not describe Enzo's past, particularly 2006, I do not know what would. Enzo's other favourite sleeping place is right under Maia's play table in the sunny back room, where she ponders her next Lego move. Maia is very gentle & careful with Enzo, treating him with the sweetest mix of love & respect. When they travel in the back seat of the car, he often lays his head across her lap, her little hand softly stroking his ears.
