LIKE A DUCK TO WATER . . .
28 FEBRUARY 2007

Sally reports:

Goldie has recovered quickly & beautifully from her recent successful surgery, and this week has resumed her water therapy sessions at Alameda East Veterinary Clinic in Denver. Yesterday my son Rick & I sat in on a water therapy session with Goldie & her foster mom, Priscilla.

Ph

Goldie likes to follow foster mom Priscilla (in foreground) as she makes her laps around the therapy pool. Before the surgery Goldie was doing 20 laps around the pool; on her first day back on Monday of this week she did 12 laps, and today (Wednesday) she did 15 laps, so she is getting stronger quickly. It's amazing to see her back legs work in the water as she swims. Therapist Tammy Wolfe is encouraged because recovery of her limbs begins at the top and works down, with the paws being the last part to recover.

Ph

Here Tammy assists Goldie out of the pool following her 15 laps. Good job Goldie! Now for drying off and a good rubdown.

After a good rubdown, it's time for 15 minutes of electrical muscle stimulation. As Tammy prepares for this treatment, her assistant gives some loving pets & attention to Goldie, who is a very relaxed & happy patient. Goldie is used to getting such loving attention from the staff & doctors. She is a favorite patient because of her happy & loving spirit and has everyone working for her success.

Ph

The doctors agree that Goldie is such a happy girl! They tell us it is obviously because she is feeling so much better & pain-free since those tumors were removed. The next step is to take care of her teeth, or lack thereof. The specialists at Alameda East will check her mouth and repairing and/or removing any that need to be, giving her a healthy & pain-free mouth.

It continues to amaze me, as I'm sure it does each of you who has faithfully followed Goldie's recovery, that with all the pain this brave survivor has been through that she could maintain her loving & gentle spirit. Thank you to each & every person who is pulling for this girl's recovery and for giving her a life!
