On 1 November, Barbara Durance writes:
I just thought that you might like to know that Griff is going to be a Canadian citizen and a member of the Durance Pack. I only just talked to Paula today. We are working out the LOOOOONg transport for him.
My friends & family are behind me on this as they fell in love with Pepper Rose and saw her very difficult beginnings. They know that Spice and I will help Griff find the real Airedale within him.
On 4 November, Paula writes:
Griff is leaving for his new home in Canada on the 14th.
8 November, from Barbara:
Heard from Chuck today. I don't think he really wants Griff to go so far away but he did thank me for taking him "into my heart and home." I think Griff really talked to Chuck. He also says that I helped him on the side bets, that you, his partner and the vet were making about him keeping Griff.
Please when you see Chuck give him a hug for me and do let him know that Spice and I will give him a great home.
On 12 November comes the word from Paula:
[Beau & the others all have kennel cough and are quarantined; read about it HERE.] So a new transport will be worked out for Griff.
To which Barbara adds:
On Sunday I was to go to Dearborn, Michigan, to meet a rescue transport to pick up Spice's birthday present. Fourteen-month-old Griffin James, Griff for short, was coming to live with me and become a Durance kid and a Canadian citizen. I even went out and got a new car for his arrival.
Tonight I got the news that he is sick and unable to travel. Griff & some other members of THE MAGIC 8 + 1 have contracted kennel cough. They have been boarded in a kennel in Wisconsin since their rescue in early October, as there are no available foster homes.
While we are disappointed that Griff will not make the long transport to his new home just yet, we are more concerned about these sick dogs. I know that Airedale Zen works. Could you please send some to these kids and hope that they get well, and soon.
We are keeping his new belongings safe 'till he is here.
MARY LaPOINTE:
I am so sorry that Griff and the gang are ill. I am praying for their speedy recovery. I am so happy for you & Spice . . . another Dale to love! xoxo
KRISTA GODWALDT:
Airezen is on the way to Wisconsin, to heal Griff & his airebuddies.
We'll pray for that healing to happen, then Griff can be the gift that Spice was promised for her eighth birthday!
Love, Krista & Brittany & Zeke [who can be seen HERE]
JAN WILLIAMS:
Barbara & Spice,
Congratulations! A new Aireboy and a new car, how exciting! We are sending lots of zen to Griff and the rest of the bunch. Hopefully, the kennel cough will pass quickly.
We look forward to happy tails of Spice & Griff.
Jan & Leda (Spice, it's ok to boss him around; it's what boys are for) & Bounty (I bet Spice will be real nice to Griff; probably won't even do stinkeye at him)
BOB ANDERSON:
Much AireZen to all the coughers!
Liked the getting a new car for Griff's transport touch . . . [Which happens to be a Honda CRV . . . Canine Riding Vehicle]
Meet Chris Olson, owner of Applewood Kennels in Shawano, Wisconsin, who has given so much of her time to caring for Farmer Mike's castoffs. With the dogs being ill, classes at the kennels had to be canceled, and then her own dogs became ill, too! So GIVE THANKS to Chris & John . . . without them, ATRA could not have been able to take in so many all at once and cared for them all during their illness!
Oh, look! An Airedale in a small dog suit!
