And so we say goodbye to The Three Mudders (possibly The Three Sisters). Penny & Barth had an uneventful ride to Shawano (although Penny DID say she wanted to take all three of 'em home with her!), while AireDaddy & I had a nice lunch. With Pie. (Anyone know if lunch/pies eaten on a Rescue Transport are considered tax deductions as charitable contributions?)

Paula phoned later and said that all had arrived safely. When The Three Sisters saw Griff & Bucko at the Doggie Day Caire where they are staying until foster homes are found, there was a playful reunion.

Lucy will be spayed on Friday, 9 October; the mammary tumor will be removed and biopsied. AireZen would be appreciated that it is not something more serious than we can handle.

On 9 October, Paula writes:

Dropped off Lucy to be spayed today as well as have the mammary tumor removed. Everything went well. My vet excised quite a large area around the burst mammary tumor as there were other lumps in the same area. She was spayed and microchipped. He said it didn't look the best but we have sent it in for a histopath. They did find a gorged tick on her so we will test her for Lymes later on down the road. She was awake and doing well, considering.

Dolly is scheduled for Monday, Cheyenne Thursday and Bucko Friday. Will be a busy [and expensive] week again next week.

I am going to start scissor-cutting one at a time starting tomorrow. I hope I can convince Jim to do the wonderful [grooming] work he does.

Jeanne Plauth writes:

I do hope the mammary thing is not serious; we'll be lucky if it is not. But you know, even if any of them ended up not having much time, they would all pass knowing what it is to be loved and cared for. I once seized a horse in a rescue; very old and in pathetic condition. When I got him to the safe haven barn, I made the comment if he were to die the next day, at least he would know 24 hours of care, respect, food, and comfort. Warm stall knee-deep in bedding, heat lamp above his wet body, etc. He lived for one month and had one month of the finest care. Of course we hope all of these from Farmer Mike will have long and happy lives. As for Farmer Mike, I am not so inclined.
