KELLIE'S FINAL WISH

Her wish has come true. Thanks to all of her donors, Kellie's final Christmas wish has come true. She was brought in off the streets by her friend Kelli in Birmingham, came to Greensboro and, thanks to all of you, was able to have her congenital heart defect surgically repaired. She spent a few weeks convalescing and then she started talking about moving on to a home of her own. We have had several applications and qualified candidates for Kellie; it was a difficult decision to make. It was also a tad bittersweet. Some dogs come into our lives and leave a big dogprint on our hearts. Kellie is one of those for all of us here at NCAR.

Kellie still has to have a very important echocardiogram to recheck her PDA in a couple of months. It would have been very hard to keep her here for that length of time and then let her go. After some discussion with the family selected for her, we all decided that it was in Kellie's best interest to stay in rescue until she had a clean bill of health.

The family offered to foster her until we could have that test performed and then complete the adoption. It was set. A transport date was set up, and yesterday we drove Kellie to her foster-to-adopt home.

Their Christmas tree was still up; lo & behold, there were even a couple of gifts for Kellie. She loved her new squeaky & treat ball . . . .

She had a brand new beautiful cedar-filled bed . . .

. . . and a new mom & dad who were beaming with joy . . . .

They had even created a space in the kitchen that is now designated as Kellie's Diner.

The family has promised to keep us updated on her well-being and will be meeting me at NC State Vet School in late March or early April to make sure that everything is still fine with her heart.

Kellie wants to thank all of you for helping to save her life and she wishes all of you the same kind of 2011 that she is having.
