Paula Lackner of ATRA writes: Please send all the good Zen you can to a little girl named Lily whom ATRA took into rescue yesterday. She is currently at the U-W Madison Vet School after being surrendered by her family due to her being hit by a car. We took her in, knowing her pelvis was broken in one place and fractured in two. Thanks to Aire Angel Bob McArthur who dropped everything on a moment's notice and went to pick up Lily at another emergency vet and transported her to the Vet School. Bob stayed with her for a long time after bringing her in, but Lily was not stabilizing like they were hoping. She was bleeding out her nose and has arrhythmia problems. She is going to get another set of lung x-rays, as they feel she may have punctured lungs. She has received one blood transfusion thus far. Thank goodness, Lily survived the night, but as of late this morning, she is still having problems with her heart; they have not fully stabilized her yet. She needs everyone's positive thoughts & prayers. Lily was hit by a car Friday night; her family did not realize there were emergency vets until someone told them this afternoon. She WALKED into the emergency vet clinic with her family ON HER OWN. Stoic they are, these Airedales! Keep that zen coming, as Lily made it through the night. She is still having heart problems as the top of her heart is doing the work, not the bottom. It should be the other way around. They are trying to stabilize her and will be trying to take her off some of the heart medication today. She still has fluid going somewhere and they are not sure where. Yesterday her urine was dark brown as her kidneys were working overtime to filter out mioglobins, damage done to the muscles. Today it was normal. The next day, Paula writes: I just got off the phone with the vet clinic and paid $2500 on our nearly-$5000 bill; that's without the surgery. SOON AFTER I SENT OUT NOTICE OF THIS SITE, PRISCILLA LUNDBLAD WRITES: Lily passed away at 5:01 this afternoon. She died peacefully while her caregivers were with her. Her ashes will go to Paula's home. So sad.
RAINBOW BRIDGE Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
