MATTIE'S SURGERY 4 FEBRUARY 2013
Mattie checking out incision; no need for E-collar yet, thank goodness. Who gave me this poodle hairecut while I was sleeping?! On 5 February, Joyce writes: Mattie had her surgery yesterday. Karen, her new mom, picked Mattie up today. The vet said she was doing well - already putting weight on the leg that had the FHO. I went to see her after work today. She has 13 staples in her hip. We decided we were going to count the spay staples, too, so there will be no bad Karma with the surgery. We want this surgery to be successful so she is out of pain forever. So she has a total of about 18-19 staples. Karen is to walk her three times a day for five minutes - very slowly so that she will use the leg instead of carrying it. PT - leg extensions PT - leg scrunches (can't think of the proper term) Karen showed me the physical therapy exercises that she is to do several times a day. Mattie is such a sweet dog. Altho she doesn't "smile" much, she seems very happy. Her tail wags a lot! She gave me some "Hello" kisses . . . . . . I think she remembers me. I am fortunate that she was adopted by a friend who lives only five minutes from me so I can see her often.
Karen gave Mattie a bath before her surgery; she just stood in the tub and was very good about it. Given that, and the fact that she is already housebroken, I think she had a decent home at one point in her life, so am so-o-o glad the group of rescuers banded together to get her, her puppies & Ginger out of the situation they were in. Thanks again to all of you who helped - with money, words of encouragement & suggestions.	Mattie watching the school bus go by.
