OSCAR HAS A GARAGE SALE!

SUMMER 2011

Jan writes:

Oscar, our Airedale boy who is looking for a home,
came to stay with me for a few days to "help"
with a garage sale. I posted to a couple of local
Yahoo dog lists & Craigslist about the sale:
that we could use donations of stuff to sell
for rescue and also that they could come
and meet Oscar, who is up for adoption.
We didn't get much in the way of
donations of "stuff",
but I certainly have enough "stuff"
to have a garage sale, so it worked out.

Scott, who has been fostering Oscar,
brought him over. What a difference
he has made in this dog!
Oscar was calm, sweet & quite
obedient for a one-year-old.
Very different from
the last time I saw him.
I have an 8' x 8' chain link
kennel in the garage, so it worked out
well for him to be in there where people
could see him when it got too busy
for him to be out.
It also gave him a place to nap
when he needed it.

I met a lot of people who came for the Airedale collectibles that I advertised on Craigslist.
At one point, there were three older men who sat around swapping Airedale stories; pretty funny.
I sold a lot of stuff; rescue made some money & received some donations.

Best of all, Oscar got to meet lots of people,
who were all very impressed with him.
I have several potential adopters and a list of people who would be interested
in a dog from Airedale Rescue in the future.

Oscar was an exhausted &
happy pup. He did need to be socialized
around more people;
he definitely had that with all the folks
who came to see him.
He really did seem enjoy all the attention.
I think once I go over the applications from people
who said they like to have Oscar,
he will have a great home.
I will be doing the sale again next weekend,
but I doubt Oscar will be here.

I highly recommend the garage sale approach;
it didn't cost anything to do and what we got out of it was amazing.
