Well, it continues to be fun, fun, fun here in Austin, Texas.
Hope you enjoy a couple of pix of typical pups here at Chez Silver.
Note how big their bellies are! I have learned at that as pups grow,
so do their bladders and their capacity to produce pee & poop!
Wow, am I doing laundry.
These pix were taken four days ago by my son's girlfriend,
so you know the little ones are bigger today.
We had two visitors yesterday and three the day before.
No one who visits can resist taking a picture of the pups on
their backs, so I have included one here.
Also attached is a picture of mom lying in the box with some pups.
Notice that when she is on her side,
she is just as tall as the boards for the box,
and I have seen little ones climbing up on her side . . .
well, yesterday two galoots made it out of the box . . .
don't know how, but I was cleaning up the linens,
turned around and there they were on the *outside* of the box - yikes!
So today, Becky is coming with more boards and we are
going to raise the level of the walls.
I also need to get out a larger bin for the group that is not nursing . . .
they are so big that they are crowded where they are.
This will make the third upgrade to the holding pen.
Yesterday a very astonishing thing happened.
Pearl & I were engaged in girl talk -
she was standing right beside the holding pen;
I was on the couch on my knees talking with her.
All of a sudden, totally out of the blue,
we heard "woof, woof" , , ,
just like a big dog would do, but it was one of the pups.
Pearl was so astonished that her head just whipped around
and she craned her neck to look down into the bin;
I essentially did the same thing. It was so startling;
we expect squeaks & moans & sucking & pitiful whimpering,
but never a "woof, woof."
I wish it would happen again; maybe it will happen while Becky is here.
We will need to change ribbons;
some are getting a bit snug; possibly trim nails,
and I would love to give Pearl a bath - bless her heart,
she is one stinky girl.
Have I told you how sweet she is? Well she is *mighty* sweet.
Have I told you how cooperative she is? Well, she is.
She is totally calm while I put in her ear drops (amazing)
and when I change the linens in the box,
she nicely steps out and waits for my signal
(which is holding up a pup for her that I am rotating in for nursing).
I think we have some precocious pups here . . .
I swear that two of them were play-wrestling this morning in the holding pen.
