LILLY UPDATE 26 FEBRUARY 2011
Frances writes: Lilly started going into labor Wednesay evening and I went to the kennel to sit with her. Things did not look good, so I stayed with her that night to make sure she was OK. The next morning, she went to the vet clinic and they took an x-ray. There were three full-term puppies, but they were not moving into the birth canal. Surgery was performed and the puppies were dead. Lilly was spayed, given a dental, had a tooth pulled and taken to recovery. After a couple days of observation, she is back at the kennel with Crockett. He was so thrilled to see her, even though she didn't feel much like running and playing. Lilly is quiet and still not feeling very well, but was really glad to be back at the kennel with people she knows and loves. Poor girl has had a rough time but will bounce back. DONNA GRAVES: Poor Lilly. I hope she is feeling better soon. RAINBOW BRIDGE FOR ORPHANS At Rainbow Bridge it has been said departed pets, who have been dearly loved by owners in life, play and wait in meadows. When they hear their loved ones call, they rush to meet them and they cross Rainbow bridge together, never to be parted again. What has not been told is the fate of the orphans, the strays, the unloved, abused or neglected fur babies who also play in the meadows and wait for someone to call their name and cross over The Bridge with them. In life these fur babies had no special person to love and care for them. And even though they may have been beaten, kicked, starved or otherwise abused or neglected, their hearts are only full of love and forgiveness! Every time one of these special ones sees a human soul, they too become excited, hoping maybe this will be the person who will love them and take them across the bridge. Sometimes their wait seems long, But suddenly one hears her name being called. Startled, heart beating wildly, she looks in the direction of the voice. All fear and sadness depart and she runs eagerly to meet her new loved one.Tears and licks, hugs and nudges abound. The person who has called her name also was unloved, abused or neglected in life. SUSAN FOX SOPHIE In Memory of PIPER, who was the greatest foster sister ever She was a foster sister to dozens of rescues we took in including Sophie. Piper loved them all! We adopted Sophie rather than foster her due to her age (11.5 years) and two months later found out that Piper (five years old) had cancer. Sophie helped us through some very difficult times. Sophie celebrated her 14th birthday in October 2010)and her three-year adoption anniversary last Wednesday (2 February 2011). Piper would have been eight years old in January 2011; she was my heart dog. Dogs weave quite a tapestry of love through our lives! "Better to light a candle for one lost dog than to curse the darkness of man's indifference. He sure will always be my loveable lump. I look at this picture in awe, because two weeks after it was taken, Andrew was rushed to the emergency vet and had a splenectomy; then three days in another hospital (we almost lost him); and Timber is now at Rainbow Bridge. We NEVER had any inkling of any of that when this was taken. We have learned to love, hug and enjoy each day with have with them; one never knows. TIMBER went to Rainbow Bridge the day Pearl's pups were born. I thought when I heard of those puppies how it's almost like . . . a door closes, but a window opens. Timber owned my son Dave; Walt & I are owned by two Airedales, Andrew & Beatrice. BUT, if there was EVER a dog that dug the deepest hole in my heart, it was that choc lab Timber.
