After several days of anticipation, Adriana tells us on 8 August:
Everything is arranged for Pirata's arrival: our departure is at 7:00 a.m. from México City on Thursday 11 August, so we will be arriving at 9:24 a.m. at Houston International Aireport.
To which Ellana Livermore, in Houston, Texas, replies:
I am organizing my life around this! As soon as he is settled, I'll get an appointment with Dr. Daly, our favorite orthopedic vet here. He has done miracles with young Airedales in Rescue who have been injured or broken, enabling them to keep all their limbs!
As we have helped more than a few back to full health, we are experienced with the therapy required.
And Dr. Laura adds:
That's great news!
This little boy is so lucky to have found such an amazing rescue team!
Please keep me posted on his way to recovery and, if you ever find a Bernese Mountain Dog in need (Berners are my passion) let me know! I'm with the Berner Emergency Health Assistance Fund (aka BEHAF) and also willing to help Dales on this side of the border.
On 9 August, Alfredo del Rey writes:
Is so nice to hear that the things are rolling well,. I just want to thanks everyone for their help on this case and to give special recognition to Adriana, Pirata's guardian.
This young girl put all her effort to avoid the simple solution and worked hard on the hard way. She took care of the pup and paid all expenses in México (about nine medical consults), paid for the initial surgery and took good care of the pup, including not just meals but medical expenses and transportation. She is just an student and doesn't have money on her own, so her father & family are supporting her and this note is to say a big thanks.
About the pupšs health & attention in México, I want to mention that Adriana looked in every way for help and attention for the pup. At this point some vets in México simply suggested the easy way to solve the case which was to amputate the leg and forget about the problem.
Adriana, with all her good heart, denied that option and went immediately to other vets and asked and paid by herself for a second opinion. I know she is going to study in Spain and can't keep the dog with her so the pup needs a good home.
As far as can I see, the pup is was well-cared-for and in good health; the only issue is his leg - it is ok but not healthy. It does not function properly and has no sensitivity because the nerves are damaged, but the pup is not, and again for everyone's tranquility, not in bad health or shape or in need of urgent surgery for save his life. He is and was very well-cared- by Adriana and ready to find a second chance in life. Once again THANK YOU VERY MUCH, ADRIANA - you are my kind of hero, good job.
Thanks especially and three hip hip hurrahs and cheers also to Christine (outstanding work), Rusty, April, Cari & Rico [actually, that would be Andréa], Barbara Schneider for all the help and good care on this issue; it is simply great to know that there are still in this crazy world people like you who really care.
Good luck and thanks to everyone.
