Pirata's journey to his Forever Home will take place, appropriately enough, over Thanksgiving Weekend 2005.

I won't have a minute to write tomorrow what with the big feast and all the cooking that involves.

Pirata (soon to be Captain Jack), will be moving to his new home on Friday morning. For those of you who don't know - he is being adopted by a wonderful family complete with kids and other dogs. I couldn't be more pleased even if I am rather weepy today.

So . . . early Friday my dear husband & I will be heading to the half-way point between Houston & Austin for the big paw-off.

Please send blessings on this adoption for Captain Jack, and a case of Kleenex by express delivery to me, for I will need it.

Thanks to all of you who have supported our time with Pirata - financially, emotionally, and with toys & treats just for him. We could not have had such a fine outcome without each & every one of you. He is a joyful, playful, impish (and sometimes naughty) Airedale - in a word, perfect.

Ellana & Bonnie (who will both miss this funny lovely Aire'pup)
Rugby (I'll miss him too ...he is finally a big enough kid to play with)
Alex the cat (Yawn)

On 25 November:

Pirate (aka Captain Jack) is still asleep after all the festivities of yesterday. We had guests for our dinner - two humans and two Airedales. One of the Airedales is a puppy about two weeks younger than Captain Jack. The two had so much fun together.

On Friday morning, Jim & I loaded up Captain Jack for the journey to meet up with his new family. The gloomy foggy early morning well matched my mood as I packed up some of his food, his favorite toys, his 'danas, and his medical records.

We made good time to La Grange, Texas and the Douglass family arrived a few minutes after we did.

The children were very excited and had with them a whole bag of new toys & dog biscuits just for Captain Jack. After about an hour of visiting, I handed over the leash and helped him into their van, wishing him godspeed on his journey.
