Rocky was jumping for joy today when he realized that he could. Nothing is going to hold this brave Airedale back from living life to its fullest.

Yesterday was a big day at our house. We were up and out of the house early to visit Dr. Hoch at Carolina Veterinary Specialist in hopes of having Rocky's external fixators finally removed. Rocky was so excited as we pulled up into the parking lot. I would bet money that he knew what we were going for and he was ready. Since this was the second time I had dropped him off to have it removed, I was cautiously optimistic. I didn't want to be disappointed again so I had no real expectations.

I left Rocky and returned home to wait for the phone call with the decision. I didn't have to wait long, and around noon they called with the good news that Rocky was hardware-free. The healing of the bones is complete, the fusion looks good and there are no signs of infection at all. Rocky had been sedated for the x-rays and removal, but was already awake and asking to go home. He knew we were going to the lake for a swim with his foster brothers.

Alas, that we not meant to be. Rocky has to wait another ten days or so to give the holes in his skin time to close up before he can swim in the lake. After 17 weeks, what's another ten days.

I wish I could report to you that Rocky was finished with his treatment, but that's not the case. Now we begin the long process of rehabbing the leg. He has massive muscle loss in the chest and shoulder that needs to be rebuilt. He will begin physical therapy in a couple of weeks to go into the pool to start the arduous process of rebuilding those muscles. All of this will be possible with more donations to help with his mounting expenses.

My hope and prayer is that all of you reading this will believe in this boy the same way that we do. I hope I have been able to convey to you how deserving & special he is. I don't know how he made his way from wherever he started to my door with that broken leg, but he did and it wasn't by accident. Rocky came to me one week after I formed NCAR by way of a random email asking me to help. I didn't turn my back then, and I won't turn it now. Please help us finish this fight.
