Amy Waters (Scout's foster mom), one of his doctors, his physical therapist & I met to discuss Scout's release from the hospital today. Of course, Scout was an active participant in the conversation!
He greeted Amy with kisses, and he recognized me and wiggled all over when he saw me! | |
His doctor talked to us about Scout's medications, restrictions and when to bring him back to meet with his surgeon and also have his stitches removed.
His physical therapist explained the plan for his therapy. It will need to be done several times every day at home and then at the hospital's physical therapy center a few days a week. Once his stitches are removed; his therapist will begin water therapy in addition to other procedures.
His doctor told us that his therapy will take weeks to build the muscle in his hip and to enable his foot to function properly. She also told us that once he isn't having to use his other back leg so much, they will evaluate how the other hip (that has the hairline fracture) is holding up. Hopefully this little boy won't have to go into surgery again. The doctors are optimistic that won't happen, but at this point can't be certain.
Once the discussions were completed, I helped Scout up and he stood on his own and then walked -amazingly - to the door and stopped as if to say, "Okay, I'm ready to go'!" If you notice in the photo, he is even putting a little weight on that foot!
As Amy had a prior commitment and could not take him until tomorrow, I brought him home for the night. Of course, all of our dogs had to greet him once he was in his crate. He looked at them as if to say, "What's this all about then?!"
He had dinner, then I took him outside to go 'potty'. He walked around the patio and then did what he was out there for and I brought him back inside. I put up a gate so he could walk around the living room without having to be bothered by the other dogs. He walked for a minute or two, then lay down and fell sound asleep by the sofa. So much for the crate! Tomorrow he goes to stay with Amy . . . I will miss seeing him on daily basis, but will visit often.
