Amy & I took Scout to meet with his surgeon this morning, his first re-check since leaving the hospital over a week ago. Scout had a PT session prior to the doctor's appointment so Jenni, his therapist, walked over with us to see the doctor.

After saying hello to one of his favorite patients, Dr. McAbee, his surgeon, checked out Scout's leg & hip and observed his walking; it was apparent that he wasn't 100% pleased with the progress. The doctor was also concerned that Scout yelped when he tried to extend the leg out too far. He told us it's good that Scout is a puppy because puppies heal more quickly, but it's also not good that he is a puppy because he is healing too quickly, causing scar tissue to form. As a result of that, he told us it is critical that Scout have intense physical therapy on his hip & leg for the next several weeks. | |
Fortunately, Jenni was there, so Dr. McAbee was able to discuss his concerns with her and she was able to ask him about the specific procedures she should use on Scout during the next two weeks. Scout has another appointment with Dr. McAbee at the end of that time for another check.
Dr. McAbbe gave the okay for Jenni to begin water therapy, so Scout will begin his first session with that tomorrow. I will be sure to take lots of photos to share! Please continue to send out love and lots of positive energy to this little guy. He is so brave and still has so much to endure in the weeks to come.
Amy adds:
Scout is still exhausted after his big morning . . . he has been resting comfortably. He likes his elevated food/water dish bowl I got him today at Petsmart; that was a good idea Jenni! Thanks.
