POTTING ORCHIDS
24 JUNE 2023

JACKIE'S PHALAENOPSIS:

As I sat down on the couch, I noticed that
Jackie's purple PHALAENOPSIS has not one,
but TWO flower buds, ready to bloom . . .

PLANTS

So on that happy note, I gathered all the equipment & supplies I would need . . .

PLANTS

I am using these clear pots because:
* I already have them
* I can take them out of any pot to check the orchid's roots
* Linda told me that if the roots are green,
they have enough water; if they are silver, they need water.
Works for me.

PLANTS

My assistant reported for duty,
apparently having been awakened from a nap . . .

Okay, I'm awake now. What should I do? . . .

HOME DEPOT CATTLEYA

PLANTS

I did this one first,
as it was the last
to be adopted,
and looked awfully
cramped in its
two-inch pot . . .

I used one of the pots that
Henry's orchids came in,
as it coordinates well with
the pots Jackie's
PHALAENOPSIS
came in.

(Anyone know
the plural of
PHALAENOPSIS?)

PLANTS

I'll wait 'til that broken leaf turns yellow before removing it . . .

PLANTS

. . . and I'm assuming those are aerial roots, so I didn't cover them.
(More about aerial roots a little later.)

Naturally, Miss Emmie
comes out to see if
food could be involved
in this new project of mine.

It isn't;
it is, however, very hot
("feels like" temp is 100+F),
so she is not thrilled
about being outside,
even under a ceiling fan.
