THE PORTAGE PUPS 7 DECEMBER 2007

Shell Lewis writes: These dogs included two 10-month old pups named Mortie (Mort) & Barnaby (littermates), and a gorgeous 11-month-old brindle boy named Wilbur (Willie). These pups came into the Portage County Humane Society from a local "breeder" who had been ordered by authorities to "unload some of her dogs". She ended up sending five Cairns to the Portage shelter. Mortie & Barnaby were so scared and undersociaized that they felt they were not adoptable; they got my name from the Appleton, Wisconsin shelter (where we got Lazarus). Willie was actually up for adoption but there was no interest so we took him too. We only had two foster homes so Carol Kohmsted who is a breeder (a reputable one) in northern Illinois and who does rescue took Barnaby. We took Mortie & Willie. Mort is with Joanne Carlson in Waukegan and Willie is with Nancy Fasano in Schaumberg, Illinois. Both dogs are very shy,but doing ok.
