NOW PLAYING: IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS
DECORATING FOR THE HOLIDAYS DECEMBER 2011 Those of you who know us, know that we DECORATE for the Holidays. Due to several circumstances, however, that was NOT the case this year. Because all our wall art had been removed and the holes filled prior to painting, I was NOT about to make new holes just for Holiday decorations. Which really put a crimp on decorating! Spending two weeks in Arizona on an emergency basis in early December sure didn't do much for my Holiday spirit, either. So I concentrated on decorating the new mantel and displaying my Christmas bears, which I hadn't seen for several years. One of the catalogs I like to look through - and order from - is LTD COMMODITIES. They always have strange stuff, but sometimes they have a real WINNER! So I ordered enough of these . . . . . . for on the mantel, both display cases, and the bookcases. KISS will be the motto this Holiday Season, thought I. Hiding the wires needs a bit of work, but life intervened, so I never got around to doing that. Next year, however, watch out! I bought this little tree (#20 in our collection), used the little GANZ VILLAGE bears that looked "lost" in the display case; added a few little gold & poinsettia-painted glass ornaments, poinsettia placemats for a tree skirt, and we were good to go! As Jan Williams mentioned, do we really want a full-size tree up during our party in January? Good point; this little one is out of the way. Other bears displayed are BOYD'S, MUFFY, BRASS BUTTON, as well as dogs celebrating Christmas (left) & New Year's Eve (right) depicted on FRANKLIN PLATES. The plate middle of top left shelf is THE LITTLEST REINDEER, a Wire Fox Terrier. So, you ask, how does the mantel look?? Like this, on 24 December . . . . . . with a bit of added decoration by Rosie . . . . . . the first time in five years that she has gone to lie in the living room ALL BY HERSELF! Maureen & Jim Scott sent flowers, not soley to decorate the house, as did Pam Simpson, BJ Isaacs & Peggy Nalley but because I was in hospital for several days. Mary Brabender & John Hughes sent flowers, too . . . . . . the house looks & smells like a florist shop! How the mantel looked after the New Year with the candle goblets I bought for half-price the day after Christmas. BACK TO THE DINING ROOM HERE
DECORATING FOR THE HOLIDAYS
DECEMBER 2011
