RILEY CAN SEE! 20 OCTOBER 2011
In the morning, Peggy writes: Heard from Dr. Clark; Riley is doing well. I'm on my way in a little bit to pick him up. Dr. Clark said he was a fiesty little guy, woke right up and was ready to go. That's our Riley . . . Lord help me keep him calm when he gets home. JUDY JOHNSON: Way to go, Riley! Been worried all day! Bless his little heart! That evening, Peggy writes: First of all, I want to thank everyone for your generous donations for Riley's eye surgery. As announced earlier, Kay Woods from Nicholsville, Kentucky won the wallhanging. (See the video of the drawing HERE). Dr. Clark was very impressed on how well we did with the raffle. Dr. Clark said the surgery went great. Have to take him back tomorrow for follow-up to check eye pressure. Lori & Amy, the techs, took some pics of Riley in recovery for me. Dr. Clark said he was an easy under and A QUICK WAKER. I can testify to that; when I got there and Dr. Clark brought him out, his tail was wagging a hundred miles an hour. That's my Riley! He got home and was starving to death, he thought, and wolfed down some food faster than I could get it in a bowl. Of course he was having a hard time getting to it with his e-collar on, and, by the way, he hates the thing, so I put food in my hands and he ate it, also tried to eat my fingers! So all in all, Riley is on his way to a life with sight, and that is baffling him, too. Dr. Clark said he has probably been blind for quite some time because he has scar tissue on his eye, but that would not affect his new sight at all. So, again, thank you, CRUSA & Airedale families, for the gift of Riley's sight. On 21 October, Peggy writes: We went to eye doctor this morning to get Riley's 24-hour post-op check. Everything is looking great. Pressure is great, to be exact. We go back next week for another check-up. He is not liking the cone at all. He can now see with his left eye. Dr. Clark took a cotton ball and waved it around; of course, Riley thought it was food, and followed it. Then Dr. Clark dropped it the ground; Riley saw it drop and followed it. I had tears in my eyes. HE CAN SEE!!!!!! MICHEL BURKHART: Having just had my eye operated on, I wish him well and I feel his pain! LORI NAJDZIN: How wonderful; so happy for him. JONI MADISON: Aw, it's so great to hear good news like this! ELLEN McGEAGH: Boy, I love a happy ending! BJ ISAACS: God bless our baby boy! Kiss him for me. BOB ANDERSON: Truly inspirational! SUSANNE CIEUTAT: OMG - this is such good news, I'm in tears. You go, sweet Riley and foster mom #38; dad! VICKIE WATSON: So very happy for Riley! BOBBI PROCYK: That is so wonderful! Amazing what doctors and vets can do these days. JODI KOBLICK: That is great news. On 26 October, Peggy writes: Riley had his second check-up today and he is doing great. His pressure was good. He gets his cone off next week; thank goodness, because it is rubbing places on his neck. I put a shirt on him as the Dr. requested and hopefully that will help. He is doing great all around. If I can just keep him down one more week, he'll be free to run and jump and chase the ball. He found one yesterday in the yard and you would have thought he won the jackpot! He is so funny now; he actually turns his head to the right like an owl to see on that side. He is now prancing around like a saddle horse, running, legs high and head up. Thanks again to everyone for giving Riley his sight back.

They are so bonded and I cannot tell you just how different they are. Tara is a live wire and acts younger than Rocky and she is nine years old. She just came more & more alive as time went on. She is a good weight (16 pounds), and loves to hunt with Rocky on the porch and side yard for lizards. Rocky has become a total love bug and is smart as a whip. In fact, they both are! We camped with them for a month and they were great . . . leaving again with them for a month and they got all excited when we were in the camper yesterday cleaning it up. They are healthy, happy, and filled with the mischief that all Cairns ought to be allowed to have. Not destructive, but filled with all kinds of antics. They keep us entertained constantly. Tara is able to walk & run as fast as Rocky now . . . they run up and down the length of this porch all day . . . and into their yard (fenced of course). They both can walk for long distances and are eager to go for sure. Thank you again, BJ. I thought it would warm your heart to see these two babies who were only together a short time when we got them, cuddled up together. Blessings to you; thank you for being the best Foster Mom in the world.
