AU REVOIR, KAYE!

26 JUNE 2013

Maureen writes:

On Wednesday, Kaye repacked
her cases half a dozen times.
Finally, she was satisfied with
the distribution of the contents,
so we packed the cases in my van
and off we drove to the airport.

Despite being a little early, there were lines
already in place of folks checking in.

Finally, Kaye got her ticket,
had her monstrous big case
sent off to baggage and
was on her way to Security.
We parted company
outside the secure area.

This is the magnificent Native carving by artist Bill Reid,
SPIRIT OF HAIDA GWAII,
now located in the foyer on the international departures
level of Vancouver International Airport.
The sculpture was also featured on the Canadian $20 bill
until the old paper bill was replaced with the new plastic variety.

I drove home sadly, wishing the visit could have been longer.
When I walked in the door, the Circus stared at me
in stunned disbelief: Where is Auntie Kaye? they asked.
When I explained she was on her way to her own home,
they all looked very downcast. Apparently, Jim & I
are not the only ones who will miss our good friend from New Zealand!
