On 31 May, Jackie continues:

Tom has decided he is not
coming with us to Cambridge,
so I had a brilliant idea.
I've never done it
so it will be a treat for me
as well; see HERE . . .
I will only tell her
when we get to Cambridge.

Well, the sun has come out, the rain has stopped; of course,
Sgt. Major McGuinness ordered it to be nice for the visit.
It will be lovely in Cambridge tomorrow if the sun is shining.

I've organised parking not too far from the punt pontoon.
I phoned up to confirm I could still park in the city hall car park;
when the offices are closed at weekend,
the public can park in the staff car park if you get there early.
It's closer & cheaper than the park-and-rides.

On 4 June, Jackie tells the story:

Kaye arrived on Friday and we had a nice visit;
she is not at all what I expected and confused the inner host in me.
I expect to feed guests copious amounts of food & drink
so they can experience a wide variety of tastes from
Scotland & England, but Kaye ate less than a sparrow.

Monica drove Kaye from Leicester to meet me at my office
which I thought was very nice.
They got lost and phoned me from a pub.
I said I would come to the pub.
I couldn't see anyone who looked or sounded like a stranger.
Fortunately, I remembered that a girl at work said
my mobile had been ringing and I'd missed the call,
so I looked at the history and called the number.

Kaye answered and assured me
she was in the pub garden;
unbeknownst to me,
there was a second garden and
round the corner walked
this woman on her phone,
so I knew I had the right person.
We had a drink (coffee for me),
sat in 28c (82F) sunshine chatting . . .

. . . then made our way to Chez McGuinness.

Kaye got on well with Tom.
I explained to Kaye that it was not possible for me
to drive her to her next port of call in Chester
as it was a six-hour round trip and
I couldn't leave Tom that length of time.

Ph

She was fine with that;
I would take her to the train station
on the Sunday to catch the midday train
which would take four hours
to get to her stop.

I had asked Kaye if fajitas
would be ok for Friday dinner;
she said yes and
ate one very small fajita.
Perhaps she doesn't
like my cooking?
I offered her cheese & fruit;
no, she was full.

Ph

I felt like a glutton,
having tucked into three fajitas.
