ROLL, SWIM, PADDLE,
WALK OR RUN
A MILE 4 RESCUE!

LOW ON FUNDS BUT WANT TO HELP?

and/or

WANT TO GET YOUR PICTURE ON THE ROLLING 4 RESCUE WEBSITE?

Ride your bike for one mile
(or paddle your canoe, swim, walk your dog, etc.),
for one mile, document it with a photo,
and send it HERE.

Once it is posted, send your link to ten friends or relatives
via EMAIL, FACEBOOK or any other social media.
You are on your honor to ride and send the link,
but we all know Airedale folk are very honorable.

(Can we add up our MORALE MILES to 500?
See the thermometer below to find out.)

To thank you for your spirit & support,
you will be entered in a drawing for a very special
Laurel Burch bag. She once said:
"It is good to live in a place where one can go
far beyond what one ever thought was possible."
Doesn't that really sum up all the kind supporters
of National Airedale Rescue?

This large bag has a retail value of $50.00..

It is approximately 12" by 18",
with a useful flat bottom.
It is slightly wider at the top
than at the bottom, making
for an attractive style.
It has a zippered top closure;
an inside zippered pocket;
and a cellphone carrying pouch
to make your phone
easy to retrieve.
.

This bag also has the wooden
hang tag that some of the
Burch bags lack.
.

Ph

All Laurel Burch bags are the generous donation of Neal & Andréa;
postage for all incentives is being provided by Tim.
.

There is no fee or donation required to participate in our spirit contest.
Deb, Lee& Cathy need to know that our hearts are traveling
with them on this journey! I promise this is the best
no-fee, no-strings-attached,
you-do-not-have-to-be-present-to-win contest
that you will see this year! Ride, document, submit.
It couldn!t be simpler.
The difficult part will be for Cathy, Deb & Lee to do
this mile 474 more times!
.

Don't have a bike?
Borrow one from a neighbor; ride it for as long as the size will allow.
Stationery bikes are eligible, too!
Please be careful and wear a helmet!

Gr

JACKIE McGUINNESS:
Well done, intrepid trio! Now that you are bathed & rested, are you planning the next one?

[Actually, Christine & Tim Sheffer ARE planning an R4R for 2013. More details to come!
Email HERE if you'd like to be kept informed about the ROLLING FOR RESCUE 2013 Fundraiser.]

Gr

HEATHER PARKER:
Deb, Cathy & Lee are sure made of better stuff than I am! I cannot believe their courage & strength. Talk about having to beat the odds. More than ever I applaud their efforts. This trek is daunting to me under the best of circumstances, but this just takes everything to a new level. I admire all of you. Airedales in need thank all of you.

Gr

BARB MORRISON:
Geez - is this a trial to see how much you all can endure?! You are amazing!

Gr

LIBBY KARIER:
Garry's comment after looking at the R4R website: It's Bike to Work week here in Chicago, but it's Biking IS Work week in Kansas.

He's right.

Lydia writes:

I feel your pain with each mile I walk,
but I must admit - I truly laughed over Cathy thinking Debbie's
cries for help were because she had diarrhea and couldn't get out of the tent.

It's 55F and rainy in Seattle and it's far too hilly to ride bikes . . .
so while in Kansas - keep the chin up and may the wind BLOW you into the next town.

And Meara is adorable!

Ph

Dave played Frisbee for an hour, so he is certain he ran a mile or more.

Keep on, keeping on!

I bike to work several days each week;
it's not out of the ordinary.

But . . . given the wind issue in Kansas, count just this leg home,
because of the wind of 12-15 mph - which to
Debbie, Cathy & Lee right now would be nothing.

Ph

Me leaving for work.
It wasn't fair to Deb, Cathy &Lee today because
the wind was at my back . . . at least going to work;
coming home was a different matter.

HI, PEDALING TRIO.

I've been watching Doris Day in "Calamity Jane" and thinking of you: Just got in from the windy city . . . I'll be humming that tune all night; hope you had a good sleep. Sending gentle gusts to help you cover the next 45 miles.

Last weekend we got the tandem out for the first time this season and rode 12 miles.
Not a lot to add to the total, but every little bit helps.

I posed Sebastian in the picture . . .
no way am I going to post a picture of myself in
SPANDEX biking shorts to the web.

Gr

CHRIS BETTIS:
May the sun be gentle, the hills small and the wind be at your backs for this wonderful effort. Wishing you a safe and speedy trip to the end.

Good Luck you guys! Remember, Deb & Lee - the beach is in your future!

Gr

DAVE & HEATHER PARKER & HOLLY & ABBY:
Hoping that the weather gods are with you! Know that you are supported by all Airedale Lovers AND all of the Airedales whom you have helped in the past and you undoubtedly will help in the future!

TIM SHEFFER

3 JUNE 2012

19 MILES

Here is Tim swimming to support ROLLING 4 RESCUE.

Ph

He hates to swim.

The second stage was a 15-mile bike race.
This is rounding the wet slippery corner to the finish line.

Ph

The volunteer in yellow was yelling, "Check your brakes!"
because so many people had trouble stopping at the end.
You don't want crashes on a day like this.
Tim hopes that the R4R team doesn't have to bike
even a mile in this type of cold, driving rain.

Here is Tim starting off on a 5K run in beautiful weather!
The rain hurt, it was pounding so hard, and it was cold, about 55 degrees.

Ph

All that fun after a swim and a 15-mile bike ride!

Gr

PAM & DAVID McKUSICK:
For Cathy, Debbie & Lee (with apologies to the Irish Blessing)

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm (but not HOT) upon your face,
And rains only fall softly while you're sleeping.
And may you reach the Missouri border,
With all your "parts" in working order!

Our thoughts will be with you . . . (our longest walk at one time is the 2.41-mile circumference of Centennial Lake in Columbia, Maryland - a weeny distance compared to your grand tour!)

part of which entails treadmill, stationary bicycle and
walking on the track. Don't know if we'll be able
to get any pics, but we can still total up the miles.
AND be glad this is all taking place INDOORS!

Gr

LIBBY KARIER, GARY LOW & MISS M:
Here's wishing you, Lee & Cathy safe travels to the start of the ride. Once you're under way, may the wind be at your backs; may there be just enough clouds in the sky to keep you cool; and may the temperatures stay moderate.

Keep pedaling; keep smiling; and keep hydrated!

Bad News, Good News.

Bad News - The bicycle I borrowed needed work;
it turned out I had to take it to a shop in Sierra Vista

Good News - Not going to do that;
I am just going to send in a contribution and the attached photo.

I am not actually on my bike,
but close enough and it is
the only picture of me at the event.

Go Deb, Lee & Cathy, Go!

I rode ten hard, hilly miles
for you on Saturday.
It was the middle segment
of a duathlon.
The first run was ok;
the bike ride was
my strong point;
the last run was ugly,
just awful ugly!

I finished, thinking of how much harder you will be working.
This picture shows me leaving the transition area getting ready to ride.
I am smiling because I lived though the first run segment.

You will be smiling when you finish
your ride to benefit Airedales in need.

I have sent the ROLLING 4 RESCUE information
to 26 Airedale-loving friends.

Tim is actually riding his bike
during the same duathlon.
He was pretty durn fast on the bike,
but still had time to smile!
He always smiles when he thinks
about helping Airedales in need!
