Morning comes early when you are training for a 475-mile bike ride.

Cathy Biersack made the five-hour trip from Arlington, VA to Greensboro, NC
yesterday so we could ride as a group in the Tour de Lions,
held every year just to the south of us.

It is fully-supported ride on some beautiful country roads.
There were 10-, 20-, 41-, and 62-mile options.
We wanted to do the 10, but decided that the 41
would test our abilities well enough.

There are some massive hills on this ride.
Lee & I did it last year; once I had to get off my bike halfway up a hill.
I fared much better this year.
The temps were milder and I am stronger.

We rose at 5:15, donned our ROLLING 4 RESCUE Tattoos . . .

. . . packed our stuffed Airedales in the car . . . . . .

. . . and left, wearing the ROLLING 4 RESCUE t-shirts
donated by Christine & Tim Sheffer.

Cathy is such an ambassador for Airedale Rescue.
She talks to everyone and she is forever telling them
about what we are doing.
Who knows - we might even see some money out of it.

The ride was pretty uneventful.
We all rode well, averaging just over 15 mph.
No flats and no accidents.

At the end of the ride, Cathy's medical background
came in handy to help a man who maybe
had a bit of heat stroke & dehydration.
(Cathy is a retired Air Force pediatrician.)
There was another doctor on the ride who was a surgeon,
so I think the patient got excellent care.

Lee told him to watch out because with a surgeon & a pediatrician,
he might end up having his tonsils removed and getting tubes in his ears.
What a jokester.
