30 MILES

I wish that I had something to share with you
as Cathy does regarding her training rides,
but the simple fact is that mine aren't
nearly as scenic or as much fun.

She gets to stop for ice cream.
I'm lucky if my riding partners will let me stop for water.
If I do stop, I run the risk of being left behind.

Lee had to fly to Dallas yesterday; he is my main supporter,
coach & cheerleader. Without him,
I was forced to join the regular peloton
[the main field or group of cyclists in a race],
and hope I could keep up.

We set out on a nice 30-mile ride that we do
with our club every Wednesday evening.
Just before we were saddling up for the start,
I glanced behind me and saw one of our recent adopters.
I knew she had taken up cycling;
several times, I had invited her to join us.
As it turned out, this was her first group ride.
Like Cathy, she typically sticks to the trails
& greenways around Greensboro.
I was just sure she would fill in for Lee.

Amanda took off with the pack
like an Airedale after a squirrel.
I did run into her again in the
parking lot at the end of the ride.

In the last year I have had the privilege
of rehoming about six of our dogs with
young professionals in our area.
They are the rescuers of tomorrow and
it warms my heart to see them supporting our efforts.
Just recently one volunteered to foster for me;
Amanda doesn't know it yet, but she will be on the
ROLLING 4 RESCUE team next year,
helping us raise money; another has agreed to
bring her sweet dog and stay in our home
while we are away to take care of Seamus.

I always say that it takes a village to rescue an Airedale and to do it right.
It also takes a village to raise the money necessary to provide them the care
and the new start they so desperately need.
This morning I was looking at the thermometers on the ROLLING 4 RESCUE website.
I had set a goal in my head last year of raising at LEAST $5,000.00.
We have not yet reached that goal;
we are ten short days away from our start.
If you have already donated, please know that I thank you very much.
If you haven't, please do it today.
I'm going to make another $10.00 donation today.
If everyone who is reading this does the same
(even if you have already donated), we will far exceed our goal.
Please join our efforts.
