DAY THREE: TUESDAY, JULY 11
| |
At 9:45 a.m., Anna hears from Christine:
Christine & Tim are 26 miles into the trip today
WHAT DO AIREDALES DO FOR FUN IN PALMYRA, NEW YORK?
(Despite googling for quite some time, I could find no indication of why this cannon is important enough to be saved, in the middle of what looks to be a children's playground. However, go HERE to read the fascinating history of Palmyra, birthplace of Joseph Smith, founder of the Church of the Latter Day Saints [Mormon], and also the site of the Palmyra Massacre during the Civil War.)
Last night the rain let up and they didn't have to evacuate to the college gym. The noise from the trains, planes and automobiles kept her awake all night. Seems like they were in the flight path for the aireport. At 4:30 a.m. she was fast asleep and it was time to get up.

Several hours later:
They are 48 miles into the trip. It is moderately hilly. Christine says they came around a curve to what looked like they would be going straight up into the air. About half way up the lady in front of her fell off her bike. Being a Good Samaritan Christine stopped to give assistance. |
WATER STOP AT CLYDE, NEW YORK |
Next time, let's take the Thruway, Tim!
This Evening's Crisis:
Christine is at today's destination of Seneca Falls, New York. She had a mishap that resulted in her falling off of her bike going over railroad tracks. She hit her head and cracked her helmet. Motto for the day is . . . "Christine can pedal, she can think but she can't do both." The man from the bike shop in Geneva, New York is bringing her a new helmet tonight.
Relaxing after a hard day
PLEASE KEEP IN YOUR THOUGHTS ANNA BROWN, CHRISTINE'S MOTHER AND AN INVALUABLE LINK BETWEEN CHRISTINE & YOUR WEBAUTHOR, AS SHE UNDERGOES A BIT OF EAR/NECK SURGERY ON WEDNESDAY, DAY FOUR.
Sidney Hardie writes:
Thank God she was wearing her helmet. I did almost the same thing on my one and only long-distance bike ride - skidded on some sand and landed right on my helmet.
AireZen to Anna for successful surgery.
Donna E., of CANINE-L, writes:
Sending Zen to Christine for no aches or pains or bruises from the fall - it makes my neck ache to think about falling like that. And of course continued Zen for the rolling bikers.
Jackie McGuinness writes from England:
Sending Zen for Christine & her mum - hope the surgery goes well. I'm so glad it was only her helmet that was cracked . . . having come off a bicycle while wearing a bikini top & shorts, I know only too well what damage can be done to a body.
