DAY FIVE: THURSDAY, JULY 13

Early in the morning, Christine calls to report:

After a good (although not long enough) night's sleep, Christine & Tim rose to discover that yesterday's rain had set a record for the most rainfall in a single day in Syracuse, New York. Weren't THEY lucky to have participated in such an historic event?? NOT!

According to official records:

Record daily maximum rainfall set at Syracuse . . . a record rainfall of 4.28 inches was set at Syracuse today. This breaks the old record of 2.43 inches, set in 1975.

And remember, this area is already fully soaked from last month's rain and flooding.

Christine had already spoken with Anna, who is anxious to be discharged from hospital and rejoin the webauthoring team. Her head is swathed in bandages, but that won't keep her from her internet connection . . . you can see where Christine gets her determination & tenacity!

Today, the weather is dry & warm, although the ground is still muddy and some areas are still off-limits due to flooding. Christine anticipates that pictures will be taken later today.

No word yet on Gil & Maria Korta's dire situation last night, but Christine plans to call them later today . . . stay tuned to this website for updates.

Later in the day, Anna writes:

Thank you to all who sent AireZen. I am now home with my head swathed in bandages. I look like Mother Theresa.

I just talked to Christine and they are in Rome, New York and it is not raining. They have 63 miles to go tomorrow, most of it uphill. When you get into the Catskill Mountains, it is all uphill.

Many thanks again to everybody for your thoughts and AireZen.

Late in the afternoon, Marie Korta writes:

I have just checked the R4R website and am pleased to see Tim & Christine got off this morning today despite all the rain in Syracuse last night. We were all set to have a tailgate party - [that was] rained out but we decided to take them to dinner.

Then our son checked the playroom. Within minutes the rain was pouring in and the neighbors called to say our road was flooded.

We were so sorry not to be able to see the R4R team . . . another time. All the news updates must have convinced Tim & Chris we Central New Yorkers are a sturdy lot . . . we just mop up the water and wait for the water to go down . . . has not been this bad for years . . . sooo sorry it was last night - today has been beautiful!

Happy to hear Christine's Mother is recovering nicely.
