NOW PLAYING: ERIE CANAL ('DALE NAMED SAL)
(INSTRUMENTAL VERSION)

I've got an old 'Dale and her name is Sal
400 miles on the Erie Canal
She's a good old worker and a good old pal
400 miles on the Erie Canal
We've saved some Airedales in our day
  _________________________
And we know every inch of the way
From Buffalo to Albany

Res-cue, everybody give
Res-cue, help a 'dale to live
And you'll always know your neighbor
And you'll always know your pal
If you've ever bicycled on the Erie Canal.

(With Apologies to Thomas S. Allen)

JUNE 17 & 18

Rochester weather is funny. Last week we rode in jackets and tights. This weekend it was 90 degrees and hot!

On Saturday morning, I rode 20 miles while Tim sat on the lawn tractor and mowed. I came home, picked him up and we rode another 30-some miles. I lived to tell about it, so Sunday was slated as another long ride day.

We rode back in time to Silver Base Ball Park. The teams play by the 1866 rules. There is both a men's and a women's league; information can be found HERE.

So we rode 30 miles and then sat in the noonday sun to watch a game. Life is certainly taking a weird twist. I was really tired but felt good that I made it home.

Interesting note: Tim mentioned today that things are crazy at work and he might not be able to go with me on the trip. I have decided if this is the case, I will go alone. Funny that doesn't scare me the way it once did. You can't really be alone with 300 other riders.

Saturday was the day that went all wrong. I forgot the water bottles, so we set off with two throw-away bottles that happned to be in the car. We rode about 20 miles and found no place to fill these bottles. We ended up in an IGA in Spencerport, New York. Water, by the way, was $4.99 a six pack! Amazing.

Also on this trip, Tim got not one but *three* flat tires. Let's just say he wasn't pleased to be changing tires with a mini handpump! Luckily, we had the tools, a couple tubes and a patch kit with us. The way I figure, we should not have any more flats for the entire trip!

Other than that, it was a nice ride along the canal.

On Sunday we stopped for lunch at the lock in Macedon. In the background of the picture you can see a houseboat lifting in the lock. It is pretty amazing to watch the water rush in and carry these boats. The houseboats can be rented for a week or a summer. Hmmm - does Floating for Rescue have the same ring as Rolling for Rescue? The people on the boat did look relaxed. The boats are even aire-conditioned! I guess bikes are aire-conditioned, too, if you ride fast enough.
