JULY 4

Today is the start of countdown to Rolling for Rescue.

My folks are in town for the dog show so we will only get about 20 miles on the bikes today.

On Wednesday, I will go to work and try to get things in order for a week away. Tim pays bills, grooms dogs and things like that. Getting everything ready to leave the Airedales at home is a big job!

On Thursday, the bikes go to Buffalo along with the bag that holds the camping gear. This is my signal to start obsessing over packing the remaining gear. Likely we will take a short trip on our road bikes to keep the muscles limber.

Friday is the day that Tim drives the Airedale Limo to Albany and leaves it and the bike rack in the train station parking lot. His plan was to take the train back to Rochester but the tracks are washed out from the flood. There is no train service at this time. If there isn't on Friday, then he will have to rent a car and drive back.

Saturday at 11, Dave picks us up. His wife will drive the three of us to Buffalo. In return, we will drive him home from Albany.

I have practiced for this for months, but now that it is here, I'm really nervous. It is a long long way to pedal. The weather forecast is for some rain every day. Hopefully they are wrong!

Tim, on the other hand, feels confident in his abilities - but hey - we were never doubting his ability, only mine.

Here is a picture of him cool & calm
near Lock 33 in Henrietta.

If you ride enough miles they name a road after you.
Check out the pictures and you will see it is true!

We found these two road signs today when out riding uphill and into the wind. (It is always uphill and into the wind.) Both are located in the village of Wheatland, New York.

The first one is Sheffer Road South . . .

Ph

. . . and then just up the road about
1/4 of a mile you see Browns Road

It was indeed a pleasant surprise on a road we never would have seen by car.
