ROXY SETTLES IN

26 JULY 2010

Jeanne writes:

Last Friday was the third week that Roxy has been with us; seems like she's lived here longer. She is making progress slowly but surely, with the occasional setback as to be expected.

Every day she does something a little different than the day before; this morning she actually went outside without me (but not for too long).

She is definitely eating much better. After she had the tummy problems and I cooked for her for several days, I weaned her to the house standard of Blue Buffalo/Blue Spa food. She likes it, which is a relief.

Queen of all she surveys . . .

Fortunately she didn't have the urinary tract infection that I was afraid of on 17 July. Her biggest problems are: 1) learning to let me know she has to potty, although I have her on a schedule; 2) coprophagia; and 3) timidity.

She gets along well with all the others and is still trying to "mother" Jake, my 14-year-old. diabetic/blind Westie. Last night he was coughing and Roxy ran over by him on the bed and pawed him to soothe him.

She loves the cat tree, which is about 6' tall and has multiple levels. She lies on one of the lower levels as her hideout and to wait for me when I leave the room.

Roxy is warming up more and more to Mark and now greets him with the sweetest little bark when he comes home. She runs in the backyard, but only once in a while. She is also watching the Westies closely and learning from them - I hope not their bad habits though.

She is definitely a terrier; she takes her food out of the bowl and eats it from the floor. Roxy is also learning about toys; she really enjoys the puppy toys and a couple of the Nylabones; she just likes to eviscerate some of the toys.

Roxy's appointment for her spaying & teeth cleaning is 24 August.
