RUTHIE'S ALLERGY
TEST RESULTS

5 APRIL 2008

Barb writes:

I called Dr. Conger, who received Ruthie's Heska Allergy results back today. Ruthie has the highest allergic reactions to Yellow Pine and Flea Saliva-66 - so it is important for flea preventives to be used. We are flea-bombing our house tomorrow and taking the dogs on a little trip for about four hours while the fogger is killing any fleas hiding in the bedding, etc. I constantly vacuum the house and wash all bedding & clothing.

Dr. Conger says Ruth has no food allergies to beef, chicken, pork, etc., and can switch to the same dog food our dogs eat - Organix by Castor & Pollux - rated highly by Whole Dog Journal.

She says Ruth does not need any allergy shots as her allergies are not high enough - just flea control & good quality dog food. Her skin was so bad due to her puppy mill background, poor nutrition, fleas & unsanitary conditions.

She says some of the hair follicles may have been so damaged that fur will not grow back in certain spots. Ruth is still getting a weekly bath with Malaseb and now we can switch from only Fish & Sweet Potato to a little more variety.

They will be faxing me the results of the Heska Allergy tests later today and it will become part of her record.

The family that adopts her must keep its house & yard very clean and continue feeding a quality dog food like Organix with Omega 3s, etc., for her skin.

RUTHIE GOES HOME!

17 MAY 2008

On 12 May, Barb writes:

A woman named Lynn Hively who lives about 40 minutes from me is applying to adopt Ruthie and continue her skin regimen. She will take Ruthie to work with her every day, on vacations, etc., and I'll stay in close contact to check on her. Pending approval by the CRUSA Board, Lynn will pick her up this coming weekend. We'll miss that sweet, funny, bossy little girl so very much but at least she will not be very far away.

Bossy Ruth

Thanks, Andréa, for the wonderful web site; Pam, for updating her bio and assisting with info on her skin problems; and Linda for handling all the questions, etc., in the Northwest in addition to your own areas. All of you ROCK!

Barbara - already tearing up as I've gotten so close to this little girl

[CRUSA thanks each & every one of Ruthie's HEALING ANGELS around the world for making her rescue & her rebabilitation possible.]

[And our biggest thanks of all to Barb Dulaney, who took on this daunting task and succeeded beyond all expectations!]

On 17 May, Barb writes: Ruthie is now Ruthie Hively

Lynn Hively from Redmond, Washington took Ruthie home this morning. We loaded her down with a boatload of stuff, notes and our contact information. Ruth was a little girl with a big presence. Without a backward glance she jumped in Lynn's car and off they went for a new life together.

Thanks to all for helping this precious little girl.

HERE IN THIS HOUSE ...

Here in this house . . .

I will never know the loneliness I hear in the barks of the other dogs 'out there'.
I can sleep soundly, assured that when I wake my world will not have changed.
I will never know hunger, or the fear of not knowing if I'll eat.
I will not shiver in the cold, or grow weary from the heat.
I will feel the sun's heat, and the rain's coolness,
and be allowed to smell all that can reach my nose.
My fur will shine, and never be dirty or matted.

Here in this house . . .

There will be an effort to communicate with me on my level.
I will be talked to and, even if I don't understand, I can enjoy the warmth of the words.
I will be given a name so that I may know who I am among many.
My name will be used in joy, and I will love the sound of it!

Here in this house . . .

I will never be a substitute for anything I am not.
I will never be used to improve peoplešs images of themselves.
I will be loved because I am who I am, not someone's idea of who I should be.
I will never suffer for someone's anger, impatience, or stupidity.
I will be taught all the things I need to know to be loved by all.
If I do not learn my lessons well, they will look to my teacher for blame.

Here in this house . . .

I can trust arms that hold, hands that touch . . .
knowing that, no matter what they do, they do it for the good of me.
If I am ill, I will be doctored.
If scared, I will be calmed.
If sad, I will be cheered.
No matter what I look like, I will be considered beautiful and known to be of value.
I will never be cast out because I am too old, too ill, too unruly, or not cute enough.
My life is a responsibility, and not an afterthought.
I will learn that humans can almost, sometimes, be as kind and as fair as dogs.

Here in this house . . .

I will belong.
I will be home.
