This morning when my phone rang, I saw that it was Peggy; I didn't want to answer. She's not up this early. I knew our little man was gone. We both cried on the phone and I told her I was leaving soon.
I arrived in Louisville, threw the kids in the back yard and went in the house. Peggy and I just held each other and bawled our eyes out. She said, "I should have stayed with him" and I told her, "Well, I should have came up last night". We cannot second-guess ourselves.
Peggy asked me if I wanted to go over to the clinic and see Saylor; I said yes. We had to take her Cody to the clinic 'cause he had somehow torn one of his nails. Dr. Joe came in and said that Cody has to stay for a while to fix this.
In the meantime, they brought in Saylor and laid him down. Peggy & I petted him and gave him a kiss. Peggy held him, then I did and I gave him back to Peggy. We told him we wished we'd been there, that he'd won our hearts so easily. He was a wonderful little man.
I thank Peggy from the bottom of my heart for being there for Saylor. She is totally worn out and we both thank everyone for their donations, good thoughts & prayers. I will be having Saylor cremated. I told Peggy she could keep his ashes or I could.
I do not know the final cost of the bill but I will let you know as soon as I have it.
Through our tears we thank you for being there for Saylor, Peggy & me.

HEATHER ____:
This is so sad and I am sure very hard for you, Peggy, but he knew someone loved him and that was very important.

It makes us so sad to see that the little guy didn't make it.
He knew he was loved.
BILL-TOMAS SCHUMACHER:
As with all living creatures, Saylor's energy & spirit have been released into the cosmos, fueling all kinds of good things in the world, and possibly even the next generation of sassy, loving, irresistable Cairns! Mourn his loss, and celebrate his life. Be proud of what all of you did to comfort and support him!
JACKIE McGUINNESS:
So sorry, Peggy & the crew that has been looking after Saylor. I, too, was smitten by this little furball, but he is free of pain now, although not in the way I wished for him.
PAT CRANMER:
How very sad. You did everything you possibly could and much, much more, especially all of the love he got in his last few weeks.

SAYLOR, THE END
Dear CRUSA family and friends:
I want to thank everyone from the bottom of heart for the kind words and condolences of the passing of Saylor. He touched my heart like no other has, for some strange reason, even though I only knew him for two weeks. He was such a special little guy in every way. I know from the hurt I feel now, that there will be joy again for another little lost sailor to come into my life in the not-so-distant future. I have thanked God for allowing me to meet this little guy to love and care for, if only for a short time.
Thank you to all who have donated so generously for his vet bills. You all will be greatly rewarded. CRUSA is the greatest . . . . When I adopted my first two from CRUSA, three years ago this coming Halloween, I never would have dreamed that I would be in such great company as I am now.
And thank you to my dearest & best friend BJ, for always being there for me in my most sorrowful time. You're the greatest, girl, and don't ever forget it!
Love to all,
Peggy & The Gangsters
Aidan, Gypsy, Cody & Rusty Nalley
CHAR ANDERSON:
I am so very sorry.
BENNIE JONES:
Thank you for being there, you & BJ, for this wonderful little guy. What wonderful memories Saylor brought to you and will never be the end in your heart & mind.
I hope you receive strength in knowing that you made his life wonderful while he was here. I have thanked God for people like you being there for the dogs as you have been. Thank you again, Peggy, for sharing your story and being there for Saylor, and for CRUSA's support.
BJ: even though I have never met you, I admire you so much for always being there for those in need. Thank you for what you did for Saylor & Peggy; the story touched my heartstrings; thanks for sharing. You are a great person and thanks fo all you do.
JACKIE McGUINNESS:
Why is it that some dogs that I and others have never met except through the computer can reach out and steal a bit of our hearts. I read his story, looked in his eyes and was hooked. I willed him to get better with all my heart . . . .
At least I can take comfort in the knowledge that although his last few days were not as pain-free as we would have hoped for him, he was in a good place with good people all around.
