MORE DIVING

23 MAY 2016

Dive gear hanging drying, ready for use

INDONESIA

Sunrise . . .

INDONESIA

. . . we seldom see a sunset as we are setting off on the night dive
and all the cameras are out of the way at the back of the tender
until we enter the water, when they are handed to us.

The boat has moved again . . .

INDONESIA

Skipped first two dives again and started with DIVE #3

Dive plan for Light House, at Gili Lawa Laut both DIVE #3 . . .

INDONESIA

. . . and the night dive at the same location.

INDONESIA

Clark's anemone fish or the yellowtail clown fish (Amphiprion clarkii)

You'll see that some anemone fish species have color variations
based on geographic location, gender and host anemone.
They don't all look like "Nemo"

Blue-girdled angelfish
(Pomacanthus navarchus)

INDONESIA

INDONESIA

Banana nudibranch (Aegires minor)

INDONESIA

Luke shows what happens when a diver sheds too much lead at one time.
He had to improvise with chunks of broken coral on his reef hook.
As time passed and he used the air in his tank he got lighter and lighter
and had to scavenge larger and heavier pieces of coral.

INDONESIA

Beautiful plate coral in shallow water with UNIDENTIFIED small yellow-bodied fish
with a black dorsal fin and a black vertical stripe or bar

23 MAY NIGHT DIVE

(Taenianotus Triacanthus)

INDONESIA

We saw a lot of these at most of the dive sites.

INDONESIA

INDONESIA

A small crab I have yet to identify

INDONESIA

I'm not certain of this one either.

INDONESIA

It may be a juvenile or some variation of a scorpion fish.

Members of the large scorpion fish family live on the sea floor
where they tend to blend in with their surroundings to hunt by ambush.
These sit-and-wait predators adopt such effective camouflage
that many of their meals likely never knew what hit them.
Scorpion fish are also armed with venomous spines,
which can deliver a dangerous sting to any animal
that tries to make prey of this predator.

INDONESIA

Broadclub cuttlefish (Sepia latimanus)

On a side note I saw A LOT of CORAL BLEACHING on this trip.
Rob said he noticed quite a difference in the two years
he's been diving Flores Sea.

BOB ANDERSON:
I'm always amazed at how well Neal handles the little dive surprises! Experience sure shows . . . . Even with the flash problems the pictures are great.
