Smoochie went in for her eye removal surgery on Thursday.
To our surprise, however, her pre-surgery blood work
showed that she was very anemic. That meant that she had
an internal bleed somewhere that had gone undetected and could kill her,
so I authorized x-rays of her abdomen and chest,
and those showed that she had a mass on her spleen
(her lungs and heart were clear).
So the eye removal became a spleen removal as well!
The surgeries were successful and she is doing well;
the spleen removal, x-rays & biopsy added $400 to her vet bill.
She will be staying overnight at my vet on morphine as she now has
a large incision on her belly in addition to the sutures
on her face from the eye removal, and will be discharged on Friday.
