OLD ROAD BAY

A very friendly Spotted Moray Eel chased me and
made me back up (their bite is mean and bacterial).
We were warned that the eels here might do this.
I think at some point in time someone may have been
feeding them (never a good idea).

If they've not been fed,
he may have been seeing his own reflection on the front of
my wide-angle lens and thought he was chasing away an interloper
(the poor vision of eels is well-known to divers).

Balloonfish (Diodon holocanthus);
also known as Burrfish, Spiny Boxfish, Spiny Puffer, Blowfish,
Globefish, Swelltoads, Hedgehog Fishes, Spiny Box Puffer,
Long-spine Porcupinefish, Long Spine Puffer, Freckled Porcupinefish,
Porcupine Puffer.

Found singly on coral reefs as well as on open sandy areas.
They feed nocturnally on hard-shelled invertebrates.
This is the more common sort of "spiny" fish in the Caribbean.

Another LARGE Barracuda . . .

. . . this one was near the maximum size of almost 7' long.

Seahorse is the name given to
54 species of small marine
fishes in the genus Hippocampus,
coming from the Ancient Greek
hippos meaning horse
and kampos meaning sea monster.

The ease by which a seahorse specimen can be identified
varies from species to species. Keying these animals involves
precise measurements as well as counting "rings"
and other metrics: cheek spines (CS), cleithral ring, coronet,
dorsal fin rays, eye spines (ES), head length (HL), keel, nose spine,
operculum, pectoral fin rays, snout length (SnL), tail length,
tail rings (TaR), trunk length, trunk rings (TrR), and lastly, tubercles
(small rounded projections or protuberances on the surface).

I think this most likely is:
Hippocampus erectus
Common names:
Lined seahorse;
northern seahorse (USA);
hippocampe rayé (French);
caballito de mar (Spanish; Mexico)
