The other dog, Carlton, has a real three-hankie tale: When his family moved from its house on one of the coldest days just before Christmas 2007, poor Carlton was simply abandoned . . . left tied to a porch without food or water. It was three days before neighbors alerted animal control to his plight and when the authorities came to retrieve him, they found him lying on the frigid ground with icicles hanging from his face. Denise, the animal county animal control officer from Waterloo who met us in Dubuque, holds Carlton

Back at Cedar Bend Humane Society in Waterloo, Carlton's life literally hung in the balance for several days as he strived to overcome pneumonia. I see you gotta beard. Ever been left on a porch 'til you got icicles in it? Not fun. Not fun at all, When Carlton was well enough to travel, Jim & I met the Waterloo animal control office in Dubuque, Iowa. Carlton went straight to my vet's, where they tended to him for three days; after his checkup, Yoda went to his foster home. Melissa of the Gateway Vet Clinic in St. Charles, Illinois, holds Yoda Yoda is shown with new foster mom, Erica Bergin and her family, including daughter Nicole. Erica has previously fostered for Basset Rescue and is new to CRUSA.
