This one made me laugh when I saw Henry's "smile"!

The

Henry is in love with Bob.
Luckily, Bob is a sweet boy who loves everybody
and doesn't mind sharing his bed
(even though Henry has his own just inches away).

It's hard to get a good picture of Raizel.
She can't hear, so calling her name doesn't help.
I can rarely get her to look at me.

I love photos! So far, we've raised $415 for their care and the orders continue to come in!

By the way, do I see a foster flunkie in the making? It looks like Bob will be pretty hard for Henry to give up!

Sarah responds:

Poor Henry. He would love for Bob to become his permanent brother. I've caught him sleeping in Bob's crate twice now while Bob is outside without him. It doesn't seem to be jealousy, he just wants to be near Bob all the time!

Unfortunately, I think Bob would be much better suited to a quiet, calm household. Addison's apparently affects his ability to control blood pressure and react to stress. He doesn't make enough cortisol, and can't produce extra in stressful situations even while medicated, so he just can't deal with it. I read that for some dogs, any change in day-to-day routine can be stressful and can worsen the problems associated with Addison's.

I really, really want him to find a home with someone who is settled and has an environment that won't be too stressful for him. My schedule changes from semester to semester . . . and Henry is a wild, hyper thing. Bob seems to be handling it all just fine, but I think he's going to need a quiet, easy life long-term, and I see moving and changes and all kinds of stuff in my future that won't be good for him. It breaks my heart . . . he is the sweetest dog and has the greatest personality. And he's the most well-behaved dog of the three in my house!

Sarah, I so love all these pictures you are sharing!

I was the one who called the shelter that Raizel was in and was told she came from a dog hoarder. They had confiscated nine dogs and then let this "hoarder person" have one dog back. ugh!

Anne pulled Raizel and now you are so lovingly taking care of her. Can't even imagine what kind of life she had before, but I am glad that she is with you. Thank you.

I saw your post about Bob and his Addison's disease. Sounds like you have a good vet who is on top of this. I just have to say that Addison's is a very serious disease. Dogs can live out a normal lifespan with the disease when it is diagnosed and treated properly. The florinef or DOCP shots are what sustain them. Without it, they will not survive. Hope things continue to go well for Bob. He is a big ole cutie pie!

Thank you for the pics and thank you for YOU!!!!!

Sarah responds:

I've been trying to get them to pose for a picture, but they aren't having it yet. They get too rowdy and want to play when I line them up!

My vet asked a little about Raizel's background and wasn't surpised at all when I told her that she came from a hoarder. She commented that Raizel is actually in decent shape to have come from a hoarder. That's unbelievable to me! Raizel was severely neglected (medically) and obviously lived in filth and had to scrounge for food. She isn't aggressive with the other dogs and can eat with them, but she thinks nothing of knocking the trash over and digging through it or of getting up to our food.

We were shocked the first time she ate our dinner (we put it on the table and went back to the kitchen and she apparently jumped up and got it while we were gone!), but we were even more shocked when she knocked the big trash can over. She's just so small! It was all unexpected from a little bitty Cairn, but maybe I'm naive! She seems to have caught on that we're going to feed her every day, but we crate her at dinner time just to be on the safe side!

I read a psych fact sheet about hoarding once and it said that hoarders are typically female, between 40-60, single, and usually have financial difficulties. It's a sad situation, and I'm sure that Raizel being removed was the best thing that could have happened for all involved.

All of this is to say . . . Thank you for being proactive in saving her!!
