THREE LITTLE CAIRNS
LOST THEIR HOME

9 NOVEMBER 2013

Shell Lewis writes:

Last week we (as well as numerous other rescue groups)
were contacted by West Hancock Canine Rescue,
which is located near the Illinois/Iowa/Missouri border
and takes in large numbers of mill dogs & "breeder releases".
A variety of breeds was being released by a breeder
including beagles, bassets, Shihtzus, yorkies & Malteses -
about 40 dogs in all - and they were desperately seeking
rescue groups to take the dogs.

There were five Cairns;
I coordinated with Colonel Potter Cairn Rescue Network
(CPCRN) intakes manager, Valerie Kleine,
and we split them up; three for us and two for them.
I learned from West Hancock Canine Rescue that these Cairns
were owned by a very elderly couple in their mid-80's
who felt they could no longer care for their dogs.
The transporter who picked up the dogs felt they were
well-taken-care of and did not appear to be living in cages or crates.
In the short time that I spent with them,
I found them to be well-socialized & happy.
A tad shy, but not surprising given that they had just endured a long trip.

Mary Whitledge picked up
Daffodil in Woodhull, Illinois,
and is fostering her.

. . . continued on to Rochelle, Illinois where Jim & I
picked up the other two and took them directly to the vet
(Geneva Animal Care Clinic), where Dr. Tucker examined them.
Both dogs appear to be in good condition, although they do have
low-grade LP's (luxating patellas) and need dentals,
which they'll get in conjunction with their spays on Monday.

On Tuesday, Sherri Casterline will pick up Sweet Pea & Heather,
transporting them to Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Heather will be fostered by Andréa & Neal;
Collen Swartz will drive down from Milwaukee to pick up her foster, Sweet Pea.

A CRUSA THANK-YOU to Barb Miller for arranging the transport . . .
and to Sherri for getting Sweet Pea & Heather to Wisconsin.
